When I got mine from him he had a handful of plotts and a few walkers. The female I have is off an original joe and raven cross. She has a good nose, is gritty as hell, and smart. Since then Joe has purchased some of the best bloodlines out in the hunting world and added different breeds like black and tans, Blueticks and so on. His focus has shifted to the show world as the majority of the dogs he campaigns are earning show titles.

Joe is a vet, he knows a lot about his dogs. I have spoken with Joe for years. His blood lines are the best but if you are telling me that he hunts all 70 plus dogs then you are telling me that he hunts 28 hours a day, 9 days a week because there is no way that anyone can hunt all those dogs enough to be evaluated for and trained as hunting dogs. Hell half the females produce two litters a year, taking out 6 months a year of thier hunting time. some of the litters he has produced have been off dogs less than a year and half old. He breeds and sells dogs, shows dogs but I can damn near guarantee that all the adult dogs he breeds do not hunt as good as he says. Look at the top ten show plotts in the ukc, a lot of them are his, now look at the nite hunt top ten list.
His dogs produce dogs that hunt because of the blood lines, remember some breeding programs use brood bitches and still have results, this has been what this kennel has been reduced to a brood type program. Look at all the photographs on his website, those that show hunting photos are from other people, nothing from his dogs in action.

So my posts may have been mispercieved by some. His dogs produce dogs that catch, but his breeding program seems to be all over the place producing some show dogs, some bear dogs, some coon dogs, some lion dogs and even the occasional bobcat dogs. Most breeders want to improve their dogs and focus on enhancing particular traits. Joe seems to focus on all traits but at different times with different crosses. If you want a dog out of Joe do the homework on the lines he is using for the crosses he has available. He has some damn good bloodlines but each is different and each line is better at some traits than other, and it is possible that he crosses two dogs that do not compliment each other and you may not get the targeted trait you are looking for, or you may get everything you wanted. Most of his dogs are first or second generation whitedeer dogs so do the research on where those dogs came from.
