Today I was out riding horse back and found a coyote den with six pups in it. I thought for a minute if maybe i should try to catch one. Just wondering if anyone has tried to catch one and raise it.

Hello Montana Hounder,
As a kid in the mid 60's near Brownsville, Tx I caught one after a hurricane that was about 6 weeks old.
It tamed down but was so subservient, always rolling over on it's back and peeing whenever I got near that I released it. I have heard that caught young enough they make decent pets and are quite intelligent. I don't recall if it was a male or female.
I don't remember it ever trying to bite or any meaness to speak of, not out of the usual anyhow....it was a few years ago.

I've had a few over the years, they make good pup trainers.

Raised two from the den while working in Nine Mile when I was early 20's. The one failed to thrive and just died after about a month. The other one did pretty good til it turned about 16 months then just up and left.
Fast forward about 25 years. I did a cadaver dog search at the USDA coyote research facility up near Logan Utah. They had over 1,100 yotes on the place. They have been raising and studying yotes for many generations there.
They told me that at about 16 to 18 months certain hormones release and they go wild, without having been spayed or cut. That explained what happened to mine from years ago.
You haven't really lived until you have heard 1,100 yotes all start howling at the same time. It will raise hair where you don't have any LOL.

went back today to look at the pups with the kids and they had all been killed just legs and heads left. Who would of thought. I could not find any trace of what might have done this. any of you have any ideas. My first thought was wolf. but i might be wrong.

Thats a neat video whiplash45! - Especiallly when you whisseled it in from the brush. Probably a good way to get a young one, before it gets to gritty, going.
Thanks for sharing the tip.
