well i have alot of ?. but got a new job working nights, coon population down. so i have a 4 month old cameron bluetick and a 15 month old walker bluetick cross started on coon. so i would like to start them on yotes. do u start them the same as a coon hound. i was thinking of starting them on short drags with scent and then makeing them longer. setting up the drages and running them later so they run them cold. and then roading the dogs after coyotes. and in winter puting them on hot tracks. we have alot of yotes and i dont want to give up running hounds. also can you hunt yotes by yourself or do u have to have more then one guy. what type of gun is better a shot gun or rifle. i only have a 20ga and a 3006 so what would be better. thanks for all the help also i live in coastal maine and there is alot of timber and fields thanks

Your lucky you live in a good state. There are many yote hunters in your state and a training pen or two. I would hook up with a hounder thats running yotes and go to a pen and turn your dogs in with a started hound and let nature takes its coarse. You might have to wait on the BT as it needs some age. Guns- carry both ! cant go wrong with that set up. Good luck

If you can, get them in a coyote pen. That seems to be the easist way to start them. Be prepared to cover a lot ao ground! Coyotes are flight animals and run like the wind. They will cover many miles in short order. We never hunt them without at least a couple trucks because they can get so far away from you so fast that you really have to stay on top of the race.
