i am plannin on camping out in the woods for a couple weeks durning bear season and was wondering how you guys tie them out in the woods? whether you use a stake or cable! pics and info would help. thank you

I just put them in the stock trailer.

Make a chain however long you need depending on how many dogs you have, mine is about 35 feet for six dogs. On each end use a clevis hook and you can either tie it around the base of a tree or use a rebar stake to stake it down. Streatch the chain tight between your anchor points. Add however many peices of chain you'll need for each dog. Again, mine are about 5 feet long. Space them just far enough apart to keep the dogs from getting tangled. I keep all the chain, stakes, and a hammer in a wood box with a handle on top because all that chain is fairly heavy. Or you can use individual chains tied to trees for each dog.

I don't have one of these but I've seen then and boy o boy are they sweet!

I stake out of chain to trees or pick line. Just make sure they all can get some shade and cover from the elements.

Had a dog die from exposure at a bear camp in AZ one time. Actual a buddies dog. Dog was a hard keeper and it rained the whole time, could stay dry, got sick and died. So just make sure they have some kind of shelter

I have a chain 30' long for 6 dogs. The short, or tie chains are 24" long, and are spaced 5' apart. By tieing a dog at each end, that gives me 6 dogs per chain assembly. I carry 55 gallon barrels stacked in the front of my stock trailer for houses. I shovel some dirt in the barrels to give warmth, and throw in some fine stemmed grass hay to make them cozy. I always called this setup my camp chains untill I went hunting with Clyde Lawson. It turns out that those Oakies relate EVERYTHING to fishing -- he called my setup a trott line.

we use pieces of 1/2 steel pipe about 12-14 inches long for stakes with about six feet of chain or cable on each one.drive it all the way down til the top is at ground level and they wont get wrapped up around the stake.

We have both stakes and trout lines.

Our trout lines have places for 3 stakes, one on each end and one in the middle. The trout line is mostly for puppies or dogs we will take every day. The chains on trout lines we tie the dogs to are not very long. Each spot gets 2 pans and a dog and it works pretty well, except avoiding the s-bombs is very difficult after a couple days LOL.

The chains we run around trees, we are pretty picky on the tree. I've seen my dad clear out a ton of brush and junk for one tree because it was better then one. Once in a while we will use a stake for the single chains, but we already put 2 trout lines in, and depending on where it is, we might be ready to go see the chiropractor now lol.

Our horse trailer has chains on the inside of the walls to put dogs in there when the weather is bad for them.

The camper is always open to the best dogs when the weather gets bad.

I use a tie out stake.

It is a piece of 16-18 inch rebarr, or concrete form stake, 1 piece of 3 foot long chain, 1 snap, 2 quick connects or s-hooks, 2 washers the diameter of the stake, and 1 washer one size larger, with a single chain link welded to it.

I weld on one of the smaller washers, about 2 inches down the stake, then place the larger washer with the link welded on it on top, and then weld the other smaller washer over the large washer, only giving about 1/4" of play or so. I then attach the chain to the link welded on the washer with either the quick connect or s hook, and then attach the snap on the other end.

These are pretty short, but if you are hunting hard, they are getting plenty of running in, and this is just to keep them in camp on down time.

I don't like the trot lines, or picket lines, because if one dog is more hyper than the others, they can keep the calm ones irritated. With the single stakes, you can put the dogs anywhere you need, as long as there is a 6 foot circle, and don't have to damage any trees in the process.

Sounds like a solid setup

I got a 50' long chain with hog rings on both ends. I anchor both ends to either a tree or with 2 pieces of rebar in an X on both ends. I also put another in the middle just to keep it tight. I then have 4 foot long (lead length) chains that I snap onto the main line (just like a "trot" line the other guys mentioned) depending on the number of dogs I got. The 4 foot gives them enough room to move around a bit. The "X" ed rebar will stay in the ground REALLY good. You just pull 1 at a time out and off you go.
