So lots of Deals out there on Garmin DC30's..

I'm offereing a New program. It's a Loaner program. You'll pay Shipping to and From, with a small Deposit or a credit Card on file (in case you decide not to return it) and I'll send you a Loaner system so you can keep hunting while you send in your system for repair.

Unfortunately I do price match, However the loaner program will not be given to Price match customers.. (Your choice.. Sweet Price deal, or Excellent customer service...)

Expect this new program to be up and running By the end of the month. I'm trying to build up some extra units now and sending some in for repair to use as a loaner program.

Lastly, Here is a Review of the DC40 from a Guy that's been field testing them for the Last couple months.. He is not impressed and is very disappointed with it.. Only good reviews I can find on them are from those that are selling them.. LionCountry, GunDogSupply, Conkeys.. Etc.. All these guys are puffing them up pretty good.. I'd rather not do that and Be honest with folks..

I have never had a problem with my Garmin stuff. I plan on buying another combo with a DC-30 for an extra when we are on snowmobiles. But if you want to just send me one as a long term loaner, I'd be cool with that. :D

I like the idea. There is nothing worse then waiting for equipment to come back in the middle of hunting season. I don't know how Garmin is to deal with on repairs, but even a couple of weeks, which would be amazingly fast, would suck when you want to be hunting. I can't afford backup stuff for everything so being able to get a loaner while yours is fixed would be great.

I just sent a collar and a 220 in took five days paid extra for shipping but was worth it.

Sent in a collar and an astro and just did the replace option and had it at my door in five days without paying extra. So they are pretty fast, but it is hard to get them on the phone. I just used email and found out what to do that way.

boy i really like the whole idea of the garmins. but i haven't had that much trouble with the beepers in thirty years. i wonder if they will get it right. i guess its like the old saying might better go with your gut feeling about the whole deal.

So First I need appologize, I've named some Dealers above and was crittical about their reviews of the DC40's being all positive and leaving out the negative. and aparently I've hurt one of their Feelings. I can tell you that some from one of the Locations above has been honest with me about the DC40's and their Issues, I wish I could give Credit where Credit is due, but I told him I would not (Not that he would want to be associated with my dumb-ass anyways.) There comes a time when you either have to be honest or be a salesman. And if Dealers start backing Garmin.. we will never get the product we all want.. So I'm sorry for hurting your feelings..

Now.. Back to the topic..

Garmin just issued a Press release about the DC40's. Maybe they should listen Before building them, and get some feedback about what we WANT!, Rather than Try and make excuses and Tell us that we need to Sit in a Field Before hunting with them.. Bad sign

Anyways.. Again My recomendation is DC30's

Here is the unedited press release from garmin this morning. One week and they are spinning it already.. As if we don't know how to use them.

***ASTRO DC 40 FIRST‐TIME USE ADVISORY***
It has come to our attention that a small number of customers who have purchased Garmin’s new DC 40 GPS tracking collar have experienced issues with acquiring and maintaing a good GPS satellite fix. There are a few simple steps that users can take to ensure their equipment is performing optimally.

Acquire a solid satellite signal with the DC 40 before attaching the collar to a dog.
To ensure the DC 40 is properly acquired, turn it on and place it in an open area with a clear view of the sky for approximately 15 minutes. This process allows the GPS receiver to download data that will accurately calculate the location of a GPS satellite at a particular point in time. After this procedure, the DC 40 should lock onto satellites within seconds. If users haven’t turned on their unit in a week or more, or have traveled at least 200 miles from their last use, they should repeat the above procedure for best results.

Update the Astro 220’s firmware.
From time to time, Garmin will make improvements to the way the Astro GPS Dog Tracking System performs. It’s always a good idea to ensure that the unit has the latest version of software, but it is critical if a customer is upgrading to the DC 40 from an earlier collar version (DC 20 or DC 30). Among other improvements, the new software update lets DC 40 customers take advantage of Garmin’s new Collar Lock feature that, when activated, prevents others from seeing your dog’s whereabouts. The new firmware also enables a two‐minute update rate, which allows users to maximize battery life of the collar.
The process is easy – go to http://www8.garmin.com/products/webupdater/ and download the latest version of WebUpdater for the PC or Mac. This application communicates with the Garmin server over the Internet and updates the Garmin GPS with the most current software version available. It’s easy and it’s automatic – just run WebUpdater after you’ve installed it on your computer and follow the instructions.

There are a few additional considerations that you might want to make your customers aware of when
using the Astro GPS Dog Tracking System:

• Make sure the DC 40’s GPS receiver is not obstructed.

The GPS receiver on the DC 40 is located on the opposite end of the power button (see photos
below). Users should ensure that this area is not blocked or covered by e-collars or other
objects that might affect a reliable GPS signal.

• The GPS signal of the DC 40 will be significantly degraded in water.

Because the GPS receiver is integrated into the main housing that sits below the dogs’ neck, if
the unit is submerged in water, it is likely that the collar will lose a GPS signal. If a customer’s
dog spends a large amount of time in the water, the DC 30 will offer better reception, because
the GPS receiver is on top of the dog’s neck.

• High-powered marine VHF radios will significantly and permanently degrade the Astro’s
performance.

Some hunters use these radios to communicate with one another. If the radios are used within
close proximity to the Astro GPS Dog Tracking System (within a few feet of antennas), it is
possible that the VHF signal will permanently damage the Astro’s ability to receive a signal from
a GPS tracking collar.

It is very likely that by following these simple steps, any perceived issues with the DC 40 will be resolved.
If you have any customers that continue to encounter issues with the new DC 40, please collect as much
information as possible about the specifics of their problems, including the environment and manner in
which the Astro was used. As always, please forward their contact information to your Garmin sales
representative so that we might address their concerns.

We thank you for your continued support and we anticipate another very successful launch of the latest
improvements to the Astro GPS Dog Tracking System.

That sounds like the normal problem with Garmins and the #1 reason they have to go back for repair. I would contact garmin And get it fixed while it's under warranty.

In a couple weeks, I'd have the Loaner program set up so if it's during season you would qualify to use a system while Garmin repairs it. Garmin is normally not too bad about getting them fixed. Normally about 1-2 weeks to get them repaired depending on their work load.

Buddy as I write this I eagerly wait the arrival of my DC 30 package - which should be today.

We have Garmin agents here in South Africa , could they reasonably be expected to assist with maintenance issues on these Astro's ?I know I have not been able to buy the Astro direct from them in the past and not a single one of our local agents can supply an answer as to why not !! Can you believe this BS.

If the DC 30 is discontinued what will back up on maintenance and on parts and repairs be like in the future for those who have already invested in this kit ?

Regards - Roy.
