it is only legal for us to run of the day here but morning seems better but it also seems that around ten in the morning if you dont have one jumped they dissappear. would anyone know the reason for that.?

i hunt day and night , night hunting we hit alot more hot tracks . i think the reason the cats disapear around 10 in the morning is thats about when the inversion layer lifts so the scent lifts strait up instead of hanging down low.

I have hunted at all times. Hotter tracks at night. Easier to catch in the day. To cold trail a cat up and jump him with a full belly makes a easier cat. To hit one at night that is moving and empty makes for a harder race. They move most one hour before and after day light and dark. And about 1 to 2 hours after a major storm. They will move all day. I hunt all day. Dewey

OMG that's too funny!!

getting back to the time question, the only 3 times my dog was DEFINITELY on a cat was in the late afternoon. That's generally the only time we can get out :joker

Snow is a great training tool. You can make sure you are on a cat, how big and which way it is heading. The dogs don't always get that right on bare ground. Snow can hurt if it is not right. Dewey

DW,
are you talking about tearing up dog paws?

If it is frozen it can cut the feet. What I was referring to is the drip off trees tn the northwest that will kill a track quicker than any thing else. In real cold dry snow it is tough trailing conditions also.Any time there is a change in conditions it is hard for the dogs to trail. In the northwest the weather is always changing, melting or freezing, that makes it hard to work tracks. Dewey

the reason i asked was here in the south we don't have near as much snow as other places. i try and chase the snow but there are certain times there is no snow.
