I was wondering how many of you have treed any cats (mountain lions) with the states tracking collars on them? We recently treed one the other day and my buddy treed one 2 canyons over from me that had a collar on it .. I wonder how many collars they put out. Last year they said in the newspaper they have been putting collars on them for 4 yrs. now is this in a couple of states or just Utah ? The newspaper said a female lion had traveled 830 miles in a year.

one of the mountain ranges i hunt alot of the cats have collars. the fish and game say they are doing a study to learn about their habbits. last i heard their was like 12 or 13 with collars on them. i kind of like it cuz you cant kill them if they have a collar so it helps keep something around to chase. their are so many people around here that are killing kittens and females they dont get a chance to grow up if they dont have a collar.

As far as I know there are only two areas in the state right now that they have lion studys going on and I am not sure they are both still even going. One is the Monroe and the other is up by Tooele. I treed a tom and a female last year with collars. I happened to know the local biologist and told him about them and he put me in touch with the gentlemen running the study. They were actually glad to hear from me. They had lost track of these lions and were glad to know where they were at. These lions were quite a ways from the study area but no where near 830 miles.

From what I have been reading on here I thought there were less than 12 lions left in Utah!!!

If theres 12 and I know where one is at that only leaves 11 for the rest of you knuckle heads. That being said, if you turn your dogs loose in this bitter cold weather your dogs must hate you.
