I planning on saving up my $ and going on a lion hunt, I coon and bear hunt here in VA and always wanted to chase lion but my schedule and income on a deputy's salary wont allow me to make the trip west every year to "do it myself". my question is does any body have any suggestions on what guide or outfitter to go with? someone who is a real houndsmen, and wont cost me 6 months pay.

I have a buddy that guides for an outfitter in Yellow Pine Idaho. It is 4500.00 plus tips and transportation to get there could be spendy. That is just what it is going to cost for a good experiance. You will most likely be disappointed to go on a hunt looking for a bargain. Good luck!!

glen, this will probably ruffle alot of feathers, but thats ok because i'm not running for office. but i would really watch closely where i turned my george washington's loose. because there are alot more out there that are better at hunting fat wallets than hunting lion. don't know where you want to go or what your capabilities are, these things are important. what kind of shape your in, can you handle a horse. these things are real important if you came to arizona. there is a fella on here goes by chasin tail that seems to have a good reputation, and a friend of mine that is also the real deal. when you get closer to making it happen give me a pm and i'll give you his number if you pick arizona. but either one of them will show ya the hunt of a life time. good luck and watch your hind end because it will be alot like going to the grand american in orangeburg south carolina and hearin about the 400 broke dogs that are for sale there and pickin one. have fun and good luck!!

as long as ya go into it with both eyes open you'll do fine. same crap just different part of the country. some, not all think everyone fell off the tunip wagon yesterday except them. shame there's still some believe the first million is in them dogs somewhere. best of luck

yep, ive raised alot pups, got some good ones and even more that didn't turn out and hunted alota "broke" dogs only to take them back to their owners who wouldnt know a good hound if it bit em on the @ss. but i guess all the money, gas, time and hundreds of miles lookin for those "broke" bear and coon hounds who would really rather run a deer has been worth it

I imagine that they are already booked for this year but you could get something lined up for 2011. He hunts mainly in southeastern Wyoming which is closer to you and the trip cost would be friendlier on your budget. If you would like contact info PM me.

Hey slowandeasy, no feathers ruffled!I agree that you shouldnt just take someones word for it that it is the hunt of a life time, You should definately take your time in choosing an outfitter and research them to the fullest and check out the referances.

might not be the hunt of a life time, if its anything like i expect, i might just pull up stakes and shag @ss out west for good, trade my coondogs for lion hounds
