I live in south Missouri, hunt here and in north central Arkansas.
Been coon hunting few years and doing okay, been harassing few Bobs last
Couple years with tree hounds can't find many that likes to run and catch the
Game instead of tree on the first tree when it gets tough. Most have stopped taking
Their hounds hunting with me since I have two young prospects for cat that would
rather run fast game with their heads up instead of straddling the track, but that's okay
With me I rather hear young hounds run a little trash than trail old coon backwards and
Have to walk half a mile to empty tree. So the question I have is what do you think about
mixing in a few Julys in this country to run cat? Looking for any advice or help you have on
catching bobs in this steep rocky country.

seems to be the golden ticket in many areas for bobcat. would put a good deal of time, effort and probably cash into finding the right ones. good luck

I think it would work well. Here a while back I added a Trigg to my pack, and the Bobcat catch rate went through the roof. He was supposed to be a yote dog, but loved Bobbers more. He died, my catch rate sunk again, until I added some Leapards.

Hound ideal. Trigg hard to find close tho. There are Julys all over this country they use to
Run coyotes with.

it sure wouldnt hurt a thing but you can also find the right breed and strain of hound to get the job done as you are saying the type there are track stradling, slick tree dogs that is not the case in all full hounds if you find the right breed and strain of hound they can make bobcat hunting pretty prosperous in most conditions.

What breed or strain would that be and where would you find them

there are quit a few guys hunting full bred hounds on bobcat and doing fairly well. I have been hunting the Nance strain of walkers for alot of years with great success on bobcat. I will promise you they dont stand on thier head trying to run a track and are not slick tree dogs.

I have always liked July's, I don't own any now but have owned a couple good ones in the past. Get one from a strain that is already being run on cat and grey fox, or coyotes on the outside. Don't get one from a strain that is just run in the foxpens and you'll be a lot happier. I had one from Rex Bowers that was a jim dandy on bobcats but wouldn't run a bear, she got bred to a treeing walker that was a good cat and bear dog(accidental) I kept one and he made a good dog as did every other dog out of the litter that was hunted. Unfortunately all the males had to be cut because before they were a year old they absolutely would not leave a female alone, wether she was in heat or not. They just couldn't be hunted with females unless they were cut. I never seen any dogs out of either side that were that way so not sure where this trait came from, but it was obviously genetic. I sold the female as a cat dog when the pups were weaned, because I wouldn't keep a dog that wouldn't perform on both cat and bear, and would never intentionally breed one. But all the pups out of that cross that were run on bears made bear dogs so maybe I made a mistake getting rid of her, if I was strictly cat hunting I never would have sold her.

They are strains of running hounds.
