there isnt any difference in range or battery life, the dc 40 will drop a signal quicker than a dc 30, from what i have heard, i dont know for sure, i dont have one. i would not personally waste my money on the dc 40, you can find the dc 30s a lot cheaper, they are every bit as good if not better, i personally lean towards them being better from what i have heard from others. this is just my opinion, i have 6 dc30s and have never had a bit of problem out of them. i dont know of any advantages that the dc 40 has over the dc 30.

I agree with what ferjr says but just wanted to add that with my DC40's it takes a heck of a lot longer to sync with the hand held unit. like almost 30 mins. and yes the 40's do drop signal more than the 30's but I have noticed just a bit better range but nothing to equal the amount of frustration of sitting there waiting for it to sync all the while your buddy is yelling for yoiu to hurry up over there. LOL
Hope this helps.

Not to knock on the new collars, but to be honest, ALL I have heard about the dc40s is that yes they are more "versatile" meaning you can switch the collars, BUT the dc40s cant withstand the abuse the dc30s could. This is only what I have heard from guys I hunt with, no personal experiances myself yet. But I was hmore than happy with the dc30 when I had it.
