I am looking for some input on the garmin tracking system. I've had the good old uhf 216 system for years, and have grown quite fond of it, however I'm learning that this new gps stuff is the shiznit. If I were to buy the new system, I want the best one garmin makes, does anyone have any good/bad testimonials? I don't hunt in steep canyon country, rather the BIG mountain country we have here in northwestern Wyoming (if that makes a difference)

I ran my old 216 for years than my brother inlaw said he was gonna try out this new fangled garmin. he did and immediatly fell in love with it. So I tried it. for the first 2 or three months I ran both the garmin collar and my old 216. but now have had it for a year and finally sold my old tracking system to buy more DC30's collars. DONT buy a DC40 collar. when I started out with the astro I had 2 DC30's and had no problems. I bought 2 DC40's and nuthin but trouble. I do get a little more range out of the but it takes one almost 30 mins to sync with the handheld unit. the other one links in about 7 to 10. My 30's 2 to 4 mins. I also have trouble sometimes while hunting that I loose signal to the 40's. So traded them to a buddy for a rifle

My advice, Get one and try it than sell your old unit when your sure you like it. I wouldn't wait to long, I have a feeling the old telemetry style trackers are going to be worth about scrap metalin a few short years. But dont get a DC40 till the fix this link up problem.
