I been looking for a radio that is like a 2 way radio with the old cb style that mounts to a truck. I know they make ones that you buy a band width but i am looking for the kind that you dont have. I am wondering if they even make one like this. I am about ready to take a regular 2 way radio and duck tape it to the dash of my truck.
Dont get me wrong the old cb's are nice but they dont get good range all the time and when I want to jump out a go after the hounds I have to switch everyone to 2 ways.
If you could help me out I would appreciate it.

I'm having a hard time following you post and I'm not exactly sure what you are looking for. From what I can gather your mobile in your truck and you handhelds aren't on the same frequency? If this is right, are you looking for a mobile that is the same frequency as your handhelds?

what I am try to say is I am looking for a Radio just like truckers use but instead of it being a CB fequency I want it to be in the same frequency that hand held 2 way radios are in.
I use my truck alot (ranching, hound hunting, etc) and everyone nowdays uses those cheap hand held radios (2 way, or walkie talkies) and if I could find one that mounts in my truck so I wouldnt have to take it out and charge it (thus never loosing it).
I know they make a hand mike for those hand held units (i saw skii patrolers use them) and that would be fine if I could then hard wire the unit into my truck so it never gets lost or runs out of batteries.
Motorola CM300 Mobile radio

I found this model online but I was told that in order to use it I have to pay for a band width. I just want one that runs like the free hand held units you can at walmart.

Gotcha! A lot of guys use Marine mobiles and handhelds because they all come with the same frequencies in them.
For example here is Uniden's mobile units.

and here is Uniden's handheld units.

If you want to keep your current handhelds then we need to know what they are and what frequency they are on.

Maybe you already know this. Here in MN it is legal to use radio’s to hunt coyotes as long as you use business bands and have your radio’s licensed. When licensing a marine radio, do not put that it is a marine radio on the license application. Just put the make of the radio and put 156.350 for the frequency. This is a marine channel number 7 as well it is a legal business band frequency. Therefore it’s a “gray” area with the law. While it still not technically legal to use the marine radios we’ve never had any problems. We’ve been stopped by DNR and asked for all our radio licenses and as long as we had the appropriate licenses they never gave us any problems.
To expand on marine radio’s they are simply a VHF radio with a bunch of preset channels. There are a couple frequencies that coincide with business band frequencies and we try to stick with them. Because legally you are not suppose to use marine radio away from water. You also don’t want to interrupt marine communication with a marine radio that is not being used for marine purposes. So you have to be careful if there are any navigable bodies of water close by were people frequently use marine radios.
There is another option that is an even bigger “gray” area. That’s the use of HAM radios. You technically need to have an operator’s license to use them, but most of us don’t. Most of us now all use open (meaning illegally modified to transmit and receive on any frequency) HAM radios. For this you either have to know someone to modify the radio or buy one already modified, which again is against the law in the US.
There are also some guys that use UHF radios. It’s the principle as VHF except they don’t travel nearly as far but travel better through thick cover.

Do they make a Marine Radio that transmitts FRS/GMRS. I beleive that is what I am trying to find is a FRS/GMRS radio. The kind you just walk into any store and buy and can use as soon as you put batteries in it. I understand about licensing certain radios bands but I would like to avoid that.
During deer season around here every tom, dick and harry has a 2-way in their pocket. They dont buy a license for theres. I just want one that mounts in my truck so i dont loose it and I never have to recharge it.

Swamp, I read through this and you still have me a bit confused. What is illegal about a mobile??? Not sure what kind of handheld you are using. I believe it may be on of the FRS/GMRS radios. In which case you can legally use a mobile truck mounted radio. The only thing that would make them illegal would be to much power output. Although you could get one that allows you to dial down the power to a legal level. Although too much power is rarely a problem unless you tick someone off. I use to use a motorolla that was programmed to the channels of the FRS/GMRS band. I forget the model. I believe the handhelds were p1225's, or maybe that was the mobile.
Been awhile since I fooled around with the frs stuff. Which by the way you do have to have a license to operate. Even if you buy them at wally world.
Perhaps the easiest way for any of us to help you. Would be to know what the handhelds are that you are using. Then what you are using for a truck radio, and what channel. If you do want to post the channel PM or call me. There are many ways to figure this stuff out.
Cain- I do not believe it is illegal to own or modify a 2m radio. It is illegal though to transmit on any channel you are not licensed for, or where use of channels is prohibited. IE, marine on land. I believe it is illegal to sell any radio that is not FCC compliant. I know there was an FCC bust out in CA over the ebay sales by a US based company for radios that were not compliant. These were the radios that are manufactured already open to 137-174. Can still buy them out of HK, or China. Yet is illegal to sell them in the states.

Yes you are right. I said that it was illegal to modify one because lets face it, what's the point in modifying it if you don't plan to transimit on the freqencies.

Yep, we either buy ours from overseas that are already open or mod them ourselves.
