Sleepless in Texas

A funny thing to witness.
While gathering some cows from a public hunting area here in Texas . We had a couple hundred pushed up in a corner near one of the ranger or caretakers home. These cows are fi crosses , 50% hereford 50%brahman or bramers as we call them. They also have about 25% grizzly and 25% razorback blood which makes them about 150% mean , snuffy ,wide and high antlered wild bitches.
Being typical cowboys we decide rather than drive them two miles to the gate and corrals,
that we would make a let down in the fence and cut across the corner of this caretakers yard , who just happens to have some coon hounds on lines staked out to barrels for dog houses. When we started across the yard the hounds all woke up baying to start the stampede . We had cows going ever whichway , except the right way. One of these hounds was hooked on a line and snapped to an old clothes line about fifty feet long his house at one end and the full length of clothes line for him to run up and down. One of these high horned cows ducks under the clothes line and picks up his line between those antlers and runs the full line with him dragging along behind but gaining fast. When she reached the end he does a reverse half gainer up and over those horns and comes down , You guessed it , right between the horns on one going the other way . two full length trips with a half gainer at each end all in about six seconds each way and the trash breaking lessen is over . Old blue ain't been near that barrel or a cow nor slept a wink since. true story except for the sleep part as this happened about thirty years ago. Don
