I may be off, but I belive in the u.s. it has been 16" for a lot of years. it was killed right here in so. ut and held the top b and c spot until a brittish coumbia tom beat it by a couple more eighths. I have a membership to b and c and sci so I will try to look it up for ya when I get a chance.

i put more on wieght than skull when it comes to bear and cats . i know b.c goes off scull but when you got something on the ground killing dogs are you going to shoot it behind the shoulder or in the ear hole. maybe lenghth and weight and skull kinda like a turkey . at least they should let you score them whith a hole in there skull.

The only thing wrong with weight, is a full or empty stomache can drastically change the weight of a cat. I think to score them you should have to bring em out whole and they could take legnth and gurth into the equasion. that added to the skull measurement could more accurately score them. the utah cat that held the record was just an average sized cat and was not even scored until a "my cats bigger than your cat" argument quit some time later rveiled that it was a giant.

In one of my full cry magazines there was and ad for a DVD it had a picture on the cover that said the new world record 240lbs 17 in skull lion, I believe it was from Arizona. Has anyone else seen that? Can you tell if it's true?

I saw a full body mount of a lion in a little museum outside of Durango, Co. about 3-4 yrs ago and the lady said it was the biggest cat killed in the U.S. in the last several yrs. It had a huge punkin head. Anybody else know the history on that one?

I'm not saying the 17" scull is a farse, but last time I checked boone and crockett the world record was in the low 16s and there haven't been alot of cats killed in the 16s. an averagely nice tom would be 14 5/8" and would make book minimum. we got one that was 15 and 15/ 16th and it made the sci gold award for # twelve in the world. this was in 06. it would have been like 45th place if the hunter would have booked it boone and crockett. the body on the tom ( a six year old) was an inch shy of eight feet and tipped the scale at 189lbs. my lion that I killed was a healthy four year old tom and it was 7' 140lbs and scull was 13 and 5/8. nothing is more grosely exagerated than cat weight and legnth. I'm not the best with all this technical data so I may not be perfectly accurate on the book minimums and such, but I did take note of how few of cats had booked over 16" and it was 2 or 3 back when I checked.

I have purchased quite a few cats off the reservations in Washington. There was one cat that I was unable to purchase from one of the hunters. I beetle cleaned the skull for him. The cat measured 8'6" and the skull scored 15 3/4". I measured it myself as well as my friend. We both came up with that score. The cat was a nusance cat that came right into an elderly lady's yard and he recieved a call to pursue and dispatch. The elderly lady had shot him with bird shot and his hide was riddled with pin sized holes.

On that 17" lion I have heard of it but it has been some years ago, but I beleive there is a person that comes on this forum occasionaly that could enlighten us more about it, but I will leave that to him. I saw a photo of the lion and it was the biggest thing I have ever seen even dwarfing Brian Williams monster but then again photos can be decieving. I think it was taken by a man from Arizona but I don't beleive it was killed in Arizona it was possibly Utah or colorado. Anyway as I recall the lion was green scored and was at a taxidermist shop and there was a fire and everything was destroyed. Now I might have this mixed up a little but if anybody else knows of this I would like to know. I only know that the photo of this thing about gave me a heart attack.
I like cats too.
Let's exchange recipes.

just like judges in court i can only believe in the facts! I know of a monster that the guy shot in the head, couldn't be scored so i only believe in facts not made up shit especially from hounddoggers! So if its in the books iam a believer, but there are a couple 16 4/16 cats that is huge and its still 3/4 of an inch shy of 17 so im not buying to proven!

I agree Piglet, and like I said I only saw a photo and if it did burn nobody will ever know. I had the skull of a large tom leopard and it was a bit over 17 and I think the leopard weighed around 170 pounds so it was a good one but when I set it next to a cougar skull that was just a little over 15 it dwarfed the cougar and what amazed me was the size and length of the teeth on the leopard. I would love to see one of those 20" jaguar skulls that would have to be amazing!
