Ok I understand that a CB not ampped up is fine. I'm wanting to know what type of walkie talkies a guy can use? This would save alot of headache for me. And just in plain english don't need technical info... just what can I buy lol thanks. And a better truck mount attenna setup like a CB one would be nice.

Any of the GMRS radios work fine. Some of them claim over 20 miles range. We use them in very mountainous terrain and they work OK. Better then burning up your Astro.

If using just a handheld anything is fine except for using it on the MURS channels. You can use the mobile radios as well if you do not use the mag mount close by. Even then keeping the power down is still OK. I use mine close to marine channels with a 90watt radio. Have not burned one up yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As for the FRS/GMRS. Well I will not get technical. I will say those range claims are BS!!! Maybe mountain top to mountian top, but not normally are you going to see even close to 1 mile from them. I have used much bigger, and better radios than what you can buy at wally world. You don't get that kind of range. Ohhh, and a UHF signal gets basically absorbed by pine needles.

VHF is the best way to go hands down!!!!

Want more info and the technical stuff. Do a little search on the garmin stuff. I have posted on this many, many, many times.
