How cold do you let it get before you say it is to cold to run the dogs today? Or how cold does it have to be to burn a dogs lung?

i have cought lions in weather -30 and colder the coldest was -46 and the dogs did just fine but all my dogs live out doors. i do know that when i got to the tree i built a fire and all the dogs where standing very close to the fire with me, it was fricking cold out and i think if a dog had to stay out over night it would probably kill them. You have to just be very carfull that they are not out to long.

Not saying it can't be done. But the guy who got me started in lion hunting told me if i ran my dog's below 0 i would have a good chance of freezen there lungs,that was in 1975 over the years I have run them -25 and colder haven't had a problem yet.

i've ran alot of -20 -30 and my dogs are kept in saint george where it seldom gets below 40. so far no problems but maybe I just got lucky.

The problem i have ran into is not so much burning their lungs I have had one dog and one of my buddies dog got frost bite on their feet, it was around -20 or so.

I extreme cold you run the risk of frost bite on teats of females and testes on male hounds if exposed for a long period of time. . I have had a couple of females loose teats.

I aint sayin it cant happen but that statement in my opinion is an old wive's tale. I dont believe in it at all.

I have run afew at -10 to -20 always seems to be harder on me then the dogs.

my dogs got pretty cold last week at -5 and froze their tits...they're black now and probably falling off.

We've run in about -15 to -20 or so here in PA, the exception though and not the rule. I will say in the right conditions (or wrong conditions) with our running hounds, at 0 or below it's like there is no scent at times. Cold nosed for us is not what it is for your cold nosed cat hounds for sure. Paul Conway
