A few other posts have me thinking about all the unbelievable things that happen in the woods with dogs. I want to hear the honest to God truth accounts of hunts where you've had "the unbelievable" happen. I'll even offer a pledge, and ask others to abide by it on this post; If you're willing to post the truth - you won't receive any lip, unbelievable as your incident may be!
Liontracker, you're invited to go first - here's a free one for you!
Everyone, let's hear of those unbelievable but TRUTHFUL events in the woods behind dogs!

I glassed up a track ontop of the mountain from inside my house looking out the back window. I roaded the dogs 30 miles up there on a peddle bike and turned out in 2' of horfrost. when I closer examined the track I realized what I was on. the little nike symbol in the track was proof! I had 140lbs of red runnin nike mom on the run. I trailed the cat for a few days and finally caught it. I only got a glympse of it, but In real life I would guess closer to 200lbs,(which is average for a female around here). I never caught back up to her or got any pics, but what an adventure!
I mean no harm to liontracker on this, I'm just funnin. I actually enjoy his stories and if they really happened that way then that's cool. keep em comin tim.

This just happened 2 nights ago. Lost some dogs in a canyon and was trying to get them out. Middle of the night and my hunting buddy and I were sitting in the truck with the lights shining out into the trees.
Heard something moving around and thought a dog was coming in. Looked up to see a lion walking up to the truck. Walked up to the passenger side and looked at my buddy then walked to the back and stood for a moment then walked off.
Strangest thing I've seen in a while.

This same thing happend to me except the cat jumped on top of my dog box and wouldn't get off. So I loaded up and started to drive off. at 60 mph it jumped, died on impact. wasn't how I wanted to catch my first one but I guess we aren't judged on how we do it but on how much it weighs.

Was it a 130 pound female with Nikes on?

Turned out on a lion 11/28/10 they went into some bad country that evening. I picked up two dogs the next day with the sled, day number three of looking for the dogs and one of the biggest toms I have ever seen standing in the road and no dogs to turn loose. Day number five in the same area and we see another lion in the road about 300 yards off. This is a small one only about 75#, I turn off the truck and the lion starts walking towards us, at about 15 feet away my daughter cant take it anymore and had to hide her head on my shoulder. The lion kept coming untill his body was completly hidden by the hood of my truck, he had to be only inches from my bumper. Then he turned around and started walking back the way he had come. Two weeks of looking for the dogs and nothing. We flew it on day #18 found one still alive in decent shape and one dead, no sign of #3 dog. A bird hunter found dog number three in pretty good shape about 20 miles away on day #28. I dont know what is crazier the lion sniffing my bumper or 28 days out in the winter and coming home alive

This one takes the cake... one day i was hunting in about 12 ft of snow and i got the toyota stuck this was mighty strange because it goes good i snow up to 15ft deep, so i started snowshooing up over the pass to where i knew a big tom to wintering out, by the time i got over the pass the dogs had burned off most of there pads and my snow shoes where wearing out. but there it was a nice tom track i would say average for around here.... 63" stride and around 230#. i looked at the trackes close and determined that they where about 6-13 days old and could be as old as 20 days. this was a cake walk for my four line breed great rat terriers. i gave them the signal and off they went, after the terriers ran off i noticed that the cat was sinking a little more on one side then the other and i decided to follow and see what was up. after about 35 miles i saw a big flat spot in the snow and noticed that the out line was in the shape of a big foot!!!!!! yes i know hard to belive but its true, but the cat must of heard the great rats coming and picked the big guy up and hauled a$$. i could now here the dogs baying over on the other side of a big lake. i wandered down the hill to the edge of the snow line and took off my snowshoes. i couldnt belive it but the dogs must have put enough pressure on the cat he had no choice but to swim the lake. after i got to the lake shore i noticed a small cabin, they had a small boat out front. this had to be a summer cabin and i figured no one would miss the boat for a couple hrs. after rowing across the lake i could really hear the great rats giving it to him. i rushed up the hill and there about 195 yrds away the big cat was ..... he was crouched behind big foot to stay out of the dogs reach, and was backed up to a huge cliff. every time the great rats would grab him a big patch of fur would come out of his hide. i thought crap my pelt, it would never be fixed by the taxidermy.
I quickly got my bow out of my pack and nocked an arrow. this shot would be tuff but if i could make it i knew the cat might have a chance at the record books, besides i had been shooting clear out to 210 yrds and this bow was set at 95 pounds so i knew if i could hit the cat the bow would do the job. i drew back it was tuff to find a spot threw the dogs to get an arrow they where so close and that big foot was so damn fat. then there it was a split second opening, i let one fly.......... the arrow passed threw my dogs legs and bamm hit the cat square in the chest the cat instantly charged, the great rat terriers where all hanging off the cats a$$ as he began getting closer and closer. i droped my bow and grabed my knife, It was going to be me or the cat. holding my knife in my teeth i braced for impact..........

That explains alot brian cause i bayed that damn bigfoot up during bear season and he sure acted like he had been in that situation before! But after buying drinks for him at the silver saddle i don't believe we will have anymore issues with the squash!

well this happened about 5-6 years ago( and i miss this pack). Iwas sitting at home on a cold rainy day when i saw the mailman well with it being wet and all i gave my lil plott female the truck keys and told her to drive down and get the mail. (she was the only one allowed to drive my truck as my walkers always ended up in the ditch) so they went to get the mail when my walker male (junior ) called me on the cell phone i told me they hijacked my truck and where going hunting with out me. Well whats i guy with no wheels to do. So i comenced to load some bullets to tune these dogs up when they get back, when out of now i get a knock at the door. it was one of my pups telling me i need to hurry up because they treed every cougar on the ridge just behind my barn. So in disbelieve i put my shoes on and follow him to the tree where they had 9 yes i meen 9 lions up a lil juniper treeand all of them where 200 + lbs. i am glad i made it when i did the dogs where haveing a heck of a time loading the gun. lmao. serious the weather stinks and i am getting stir crazy.

No joke here. This just happened last week. I had gone 12 days without a Tom track. So I moved to an area a little further away for a look. Right off I noticed that someone had been hammering the crap out of this place, everyday for at least 5 days. Right at the end of the road I saw a 3 day old track of a 150 pound tom walking in a elk track. On a dead end side road I noticed where the other guy had turned around and I pulled off there to take a leak. Next day I walked a 8 mile loop (no roads) trying cut the 150 pound tom fresher. About 2 miles from the truck, I came accross the tracks of a big female with 2 big cubs. They had a trail beat down and tracks were going both ways in it. The freshest sets were 2 days old. This could only mean one thing...lion kill! I followed them up and sure enough, they had killed an eaten a deer. I could see where the female made the cubs set and watch her as she made the stalk and the 15 foot pounce on the bedded deer. I had to wonder what sort of a signal she gave them to stay. They were 40 feet behind her and crouched down when she made the pounce. We shot some video of the kill and the tracks and climbed up the slope to leave. About 50 yds from the kill, on the top of the ridge were mine and the other hunters tracks from the days before. We had drove by within 50 yds of a kill and did not have a clue it was even there! That made me wonder how many lions we have drove by and not known it because we did not see tracks.

Makes you wish you had a good rig dog don't it.
