I have a question for all of you in regards to your State or Province Cougar Harvest Quotas.
Alberta Cougar Harvest Male Quota Approx 50
Alberta Cougar Harvest Female Quota Approx 45
Trapping average harvest 50 Male Female and Kitten.
Problem Cougars, hit by cars etc. Approx 50
So that's just under 200 Cougars per year for the entire Province.
What are the harvest Quotas per year in B.C. , Utah, Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, etc.
Regards
Shane

New Mexico adding up all the zones state wide is 487. its broken down into zones each having its own quota. Only 25% of the harvest in each zone can be females so the total number is never hit because of zones closing early due to the female quotas being reached

the total for oregon is 777. havent come close to filling it until 2007 when they started factoring in non-hunter harvest. and we still fall about 200 short.

I'll take a shot at this one for BC. Our cougars are a general open season. Or GOS for short. Bc resident hunters can buy two 30 dollar tags and kill 2 cougars in the province. In region 4 kootenay the regional bag limit is 1. There is also a quota on females that if reached causes the season to close. In the east kootenay the quota is 20 females. And essentially 20 females in the west kootenay. Region 8 Okanagan bag limit is also 1 as is region 6 Skeena.
How does the quota system work in alberta do houndsmen need to draw a tag or is it wide open until you hit the harvest limit?
