Wolves Kill Another Hound In Idaho

Long time houndman and good friend Bob Jackson had another fine young yound killed and partially eaten by wolves last Thursday the 20th of January. I helped him carry what was left of the dog out of the draw. Looked like we were only a few minutes late getting there. Cruel, vicious, horrible thing to see. Oregon and Washington will soon be experiencing the same thing, so get ready. I moved here to Idaho after being a native Oregonian and watching it turn into a bunch of liberal sissies. It seems that common sense is leaving these United States in a hurry. Please remember to get invoved and stand up for what is right. Arlene and I wish you all good hunting and good health. Greg

nuttybuddy, glad to see something from you on here, too bad it had to be this. You may not even remember me but I hunted with you back in the 80's with moonshiner and company (I assume it was you). My dad was the one with all the plotts, I was just a boy.
Folks it is long past time for us to take matters into our own hands, I have watched Idaho go from one of the best places to live and hunt big game to one of the best places to get your dogs killed by wolves in no less than a decade. I'm not going to try to tell anyone exactly what to do I am just going to say one person can't solve it nor can one hundred, it is something that is going to take everyone (but we have to do something besides complain, as a matter of fact I feel a little guilty that I did not participate more actively in the Idaho hunt last year as the zone I live in closed without the quota being filled)! The one thing that we absolutely cannot do is give up, if you quit hunting because of these non native predators you have essentially let the anti's win. I have not had the misfortune of a bad run in with wolves and cannot really imagine how it would make me feel but I have doubled my pack size in preparation and am splitting my lead dogs into two groups in order to avoid being put out of business in one day. My heart goes out to Mr. Jackson and all of those who have lost dogs. Our Gov. Butch Otter has given up on trying to manage them under the current federal regulation and that leaves us to our own devices, enough said.
On the brighter side, if there is one, the whole issue has served to unify all big game hunters as the antlered game is suffering as well. I have seen the general hunting public opinion change tremendously over the years as the importance of predator management becomes painfully clear. Let's all keep our eyes out for political leaders that want to actively pursue getting management put into the states hands and help promote thier campain to all hunters in 2012.

Happened above Stites/Harster/area. Had the garmin on him, but just couldn't get there quite fast enough. There is a new story out yesterday that a lady went to her mailbox with her St Bernard dog. Supposedly, three wolves attacked and killed the dog immediately. This was just barely out of Kamiah....I can see the area where it is supposed to have happened as I look across the Clearwater River from my front deck.
I can't imagine how bad it must have to get before we have politicians/fish and game with enough spine to say enough..........GT

That's a bad deal Greg, it wasn't one of Bob's younger pups was it? I figure they'd be too young yet? Anyways, it always makes a guy give a prayer every time he unsnaps the dogs. It's just matter of time for us all...

No, it was Buckshot.. Gus is the sire and his mother is one of Randy's females. Don't know if you know, but Bob also lost Gus's dad to wolves a few years ago, too. It is such a terrible waste. Especially since this young dog was so good at such a young age. I guess it wouldn't matter hold old the dog was. It made me so upset that I haven't slept much since. Hope all is well with you. Come down for a visit when you can. Greg
