Hi All,

I have a classified ad for a lion hound that I was hoping I could get some help with. The details are at viewtopic.php?f=15&t=20037&p=139700#p139700.

I'm much obliged for any help you can provide.

houndnem,
where do you hunt lions?
California; for research purposes in association with state agencies and organizations.

How do you get hired on with a state agency without a already made pack of lion hounds? California's done enough lion study's I would think that they would have enough contact's they wouldn't have to go shopping for another.

I don't have a dog in this fight just doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

ya find one yet? you've got me tempted here. I have a dog that fits your exact discription exept she is a hair younger than you specified. 1 1/2 to 2 year old female, unspayed, walker, small build, been makin every tree since she was about 3 months old.(40+ lions) aggressive towards cats, has never hunted bear or bobcat, rig minded(she will whine and yip on a staged rig, coon). I'm not a rig hunter. great nose, has hunted dirt alot but for now a snow dog. she has made start to finish races with my other dogs on dirt only(winded one and was first at the tree). pictures, not a problem. she is in every lion picture I have caught since she was old enough to run. no problem showing her in the woods, I would consider a 2-3 week trial at your place if I had the cash in my hand. (and a written signed contract to protect us both)this dog is an absolute fireball! she handles great, but is not 100% broke. (will not leave lion to chase anything). I think this dog is a champion and as good a cat dog as I have seen. I don't really want to sell her but she has one hole in my eyes and that is that she climbs the tree. I'm afraid if this does not change she will not see 3. she thinks she has to face bark every cat we catch. I think if this dog was taken and put into a lead dog position with a couple dogs to back her up she would shine. she is not my lead dog, but she's young and she will hang with the biggens anywhere anytime. I would not take less than $3000.00 for this dog and I'm not 100% sure I would even sell her. if I did it would have to be to somebody like yourself where I knew she would get her chance to shine. 435-668-0161, jared.

1. Lion hunters are more rare in California that one might imagine, and most are getting up there in years in my opinion. 2. Here are some reasons why someone might want a new dog:
*Dogs get old.
*Dogs die.
*Dogs get hurt.
*Dogs need rest.
*Gas prices are going up, so it's more appropriate than ever to make the most of every track you cut.

Hi Jared,

She sounds promising, and I will agree with you on your concerns with her tree climbing. The oaks and madrones out here have a nasty habit of growing in such a way that allows the dogs to climb them with relative ease in many cases.

I will give you a call this evening to discuss her further.

RIFLEMAN,
How would a young buck apply for a job hunting lions in CA? I've heard the same thing about those old farts that are there now. I just never knew how to apply for their position, once they couldn't get through the country with a walker any more!
