I have seen some at compitions I was wondering if anyone hunted scenthound/sighthound crosses for big game...

My friends in Hawaii have been using greyhound crosses with good success on the wild boars in their rain forests. Some of the typical crosses they used had some percentage of airedale and bulldog.
It has been some years since I hunted with them, but I do remember them having a good enough nose to track in their terrain. The speed to catch what they were chasing, and the courage and grit to not back down. These crosses made for some of their pack leaders, I hope this helps.

I use to run them years ago and found you are better to run a 2/3 coonhound to 1/3 greyhound. And your culling is still going to be high. You may be better off finding someone with a fast line of coonhounds. I'm sure there has been lots of us trying to reinvent the wheel and end up going to the original wheel after alot of time and money was spent.

i think they have almost the same line as a brazilian hound or brazilian deer hound (veadeiro nacional original name)
as far as i know is a cross with foxhound english bulldog grayhound veadeiro pampeano e cimarrom urugauio i own 3 and they are very good hog dogs this pictures is not of my dogs is for a breeder in Brazil

Don't mind me asking but what are your intentions with the cross? Are you looking more for a dog for chasing or treeing?

I have seen some make catchin critters look awful easy.....day and night. Just depends on what kinda style you want in a dog and what kinda faults you can live with.

I have one Grey X Airedale/Pit and he dose it all but was wondering what everyone thought, he chases and trees hard, use him with the plotts and with the terriers.. And Dan you seen this dog kill'in coons when I came to see you .. Hoping to get some more of the same type crosses as they work real good around here..

The dog was a pup when I seen him and I never seen him "kill" a coon outright but he never backed off an inch. I think he was too young and immature to flat out crunch one but toss a terrier on the ground with him and it was over. Either way, he looked a (beep) of alot better than that cull we had on the ground that day.

Ya for sure dan, he still has a bit of trouble with the big ones, he never did get big enough to really crush ones over 20lbs, but he gives them hell and he never has backed up once.. The pups I bred off of him are crushers and in the 75+lbs range, red is about 45-50max.. Hope to be getting some bred about the same this yr if I can, only with more stag .. His sister will be here in July from Hoss.. Going to take her to Griffin (reds son in Idaho)... Seems that his pups are the same temperament but stronger and faster cuz they are over 26in tts, red is 24...

when do you plan this breeding and how much will you be asking for the pups?

From what I've been told them pups out of him are rockstars for what they are.

I bet you some of these new pups out of Brin will be wreckers.

All pups are spoken for... I will be keeping most of 'um and the rest I am sure will go to Idaho for the first gen or two.. BUT I will keep you in mind if I have an extra..

I have an airedale/staghound cross that I run with my plotts on bear, he will use his nose somewhat, runs silent, and will tree a little.

If you got that dog from Pete Eggers in WA, I use them in my crosses.. Good dogs..
