Complaint letter about Wild Justice show
Ok guys here is what I came up with. Review it and let me know any changes that you guys think should be made. Once we have a final draft it will take a little effort on all our parts. It will be necissary to mail out several differant copies. I will post each letter addressed to differant people. You will then have to print it out, SIGN it and put a stamp on it. Hard letters get more response than emails.
Shawn.

Re: Complaint letter about Wild Justice show
Director John McCamman,
Cc, Governor Jerry Brown
Cc, Mr. Jim Kellog
I am writing to you to voice my displeasure with the National Geographic show “Wild Justice”. I am a hunter and a fisherman. My family also participates in hunting and fishing activities. After watching several recent episodes of “Wild Justice” I am appalled at the outrageous conduct of some of the California Wardens and the way they are portraying hunters. These wardens are portraying ALL people who participate in the sport of hunting with hounds as poachers and outlaws. Episodes such as “Thrill Killer” insinuate that all Houndsmen are involved in selling gall bladders.
In another episode, wardens have a non-hunting vehicle detained when a group of hunters drive by. A warden comments to the camera that he is upset that he cannot go after these hunters because he is involved in a vehicle stop already. This is hardly professional conduct. The actions of these wardens are not only discouraging California residents from buying hunting licenses, but are also discouraging out of state hunters. All one has to do is look at the comments left on the hunting boards to see the discontent this show is causing in other states.
Lastly I would like to point out that if it were not for licensed hunters and fisherman, wildlife and the CDFG would not be around today. As a Licensed hunter I am voicing my displeasure with this show and am asking that CDFG immediately end their participation in the “Wild Justice” show. Thank you for your time and I WOULD APPRECIATE A RESPONSE.
Sincerely

this is pretty good but if it were me id take out this part, "In another episode, wardens have a non-hunting vehicle detained when a group of hunters drive by. A warden comments to the camera that he is upset that he cannot go after these hunters because he is involved in a vehicle stop already. This is hardly professional conduct."
i think by naming Specific incidents They may try to fix that Specific problem, but by making a more broad complaint may lead to better results.
also i would add something like, as a TAX PAYER i do not like how dfg is handling their wardens behavior and that i feel my tax dollars are being wasted while these wardens intertain the cameras
just my two cents , ill sign it either way thanks

Re: Complaint letter about Wild Justice show
I think you all are missing the point totally.
Camera crews film hours and hours of footage for one episode. Editors then take all of that footage and cut it down to the show length. The producers have to have a product that they can sell to broadcast companies. So, the editors are looking for something that fits their agenda and at the same time is appealing for people to watch.
I am going to tell you that after hours of filming a person non stop a skilled editor can cut and splice until we would all sound like anti hunters.
If I lived in CA. I would write a letter to the governor and the head of CA fish and game and state your displeasure of the show. Tell them that you feel that the show Wild Justice does not portray the CA Game Warden in a positive light nor does it do anything to promote the ethical use of California's resources. Furthermore, you are a hunter and do not wish to have an adversarial relationship with law enforcement or the DFG. Remind them that hunters dollars pay for the DFG and land acquisition and maintenance of property in CA.
The way that letter is written now it simply looks like you have a beef with game wardens, when in fact the beef should be with wardens and the DFG participating in a show that portrays hunters in a negative light. The "show" is private company that is using the DGF to push an agenda. Simply voice your opinion about the hunter supported DFG participating in such an agenda.

Boss Hog. I like your idea. Rowdy. Letters will be sent to the governor etc. I am just trying to get feedback as I have never written a letter like this before. I think you are correct in that we need to avoid personal attacks. The problem is the wardens do have an agenda and are against houndsmen. We need to figure how to word the letter in such a way that it gets our point across without attacking individual wardens. Please post something to give us some ideas. Your point is very valid and I need all the help I can get.

Re: Complaint letter about Wild Justice show
Shawn,
Yeah I was not trying to be negative about what you are doing at all. Until hunters step up and draw a line in the sand we will continue to get run over by the animal rights machine.
We had the similar experiences here in Indiana. Houndsmen felt as thought they got discriminatory treatment here in relationship to other hunting groups.
What we did here was start a proactive group called the Hoosier Tree Dog Alliance. I am one of the original founders and serve as president. You can check out our website at:
http://www.hoosiertreedogs.org In less than five years we have become one of the most active and respected sporting groups in the state. We have spearheaded changes in the coon running season, sponsored kids for youth camp, donate money to the Hunter Education program and other true conservation efforts.
I will be glad to help.

Re: Complaint letter about Wild Justice show
Ive personly dealt with a couple of the wardens on this show and I can tell you this show does not portray them as anti houndsman they really are. They act the same way when there is no camera crews around even if only to stop and ask to see a licence. When they are done you feel violated. I took one of the wardens on this show hunting while he was still in warden school and had to listen to his personal interpratation of the laws all day long. Let me tell ya they didnt have to do much brain washing to this simple minded pri*k.

Re: Complaint letter about Wild Justice show
Rowdy, i see what you are saying about the editing and all and I couldnt agree more.......But..... what you dont understand is the wardens in that state are really like that!! They are horrable!! They discriminate against houndsmen constantly!! They really make the editors job easy because I feel they are exactly as portrayed in the show.
on that note,Bear hunter,
Maybe that is more of the angle your letter should go.Express disaproval in the way the game wardens act and the way they treat law abiding citizens.Maybe the fish and game will decide tho pull the plug just because their actions have been exposed.
I hope in someway this can make things a little better down there for you boys.

Re: Complaint letter about Wild Justice show
ALL OF YOUR THOUGHTS HAVE REAL MERRIT I DO THINK THERE ARE TWO REAL PROBLEMS AND THEY NEED TO BE ADDRESSED. I FEEL THAT # 2 HAS FAR GREATER CONSEQUENCES FOR ALL OF US COAST TO COAST.
1. THE SITUATION WITH THE WARDENS AND HOW THEY TREAT PEOPLE IS A REAL PROBLEM. THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT NEEDS TO DEALT WITH. NONE OF US LIKE TO VILLIFIED BUT WE CAN DEAL WITH IT. IT WILL TAKE AN UPRISING OF THE SPORTING PUBLIC TO CREATE CHANGE.
2, THE OTHER GREATER PROBLEM IS HOW SPORTMEN ARE BEING PORTRAYED TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC ON THE NATIONAL STAGE. THE SHOW'S PORTRAL OF THE SPORTING PUBLIC AS A GROUP OF LOW LIFE CRIMINALS TRANSLATES INTO AN ANTI HUNTING SENTIMANT BY THE NON HUNTING AND FISHING SEGMENT OF SOCIETY. THAT IN TURN CREATES ANTI HUNTING LEGISLATION. I SUSPECT THAT IS THE UNDERLYING REASON FOR THE SHOW.
I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH THE U S SPORTSMANS ALLINACE AND ASKED FOR THEIR HELP. I HOPE THAT SOME OF YOU HAVE CONTACTED THEM AS WELL. THEIR EMAIL ADDRESS IS ON PRVIOUS POSTS. THE MAN WHO CONTACTED ME IS MR. DOUG JEANNERET, HIS E MAIL IS DJEANNERET@USSPORTSMEN.ORG. I ENCOURGE YOU TO COMMUNICATE YOUR THOUGHTS TO HIM. THE SQUEAKY WHEEL GETS THE GREASE.
MR. JEANNERET TOLD ME THAT THEY ARE INVESTIGATEING THE MATTER AND HE WOULD GET BACK TO ME. I WAITED ONE WEEK AND THIS MORNING I E MAILED HIM AND ASKED BASICLY WHAT ARE YOU DOING AND HOW ARE YOU GOING TO HANDLE THIS SITUATION? I HAVE REFERED HIM TO THIS FORUM SO THAT HE WILL BETTER UNDERSTAND THE SPORTSMEN'S SENTIMENTS ON THIS ISSUE.
IN THE MEAN TIME WRITE THE LETTERS AND TRY AND INCOROPERATE THE CONCEPTS STATED IN NUMBER 2. THEY SHOULD RESONATE WITH THE FISH AND GAME DEPT AS WELL. THEY SHOULD NOT WANT TO BE PORTRYED AS AN ANTI HUNTING ORGANIZATION. THE HOUSE AND SENATE COMMITTES THAT DEAL WITH FISH & GAME, REGULATORY MEMBERS OF FISH & GAME BOARDS. LOCAL AND STATE SPORTSMENS ORGANIZATIONS. GET AS MANY GROUPS AS POSSIBLE THAT REPRESENT THE BROAWD SPECTUM OF SPORTSMEN, NOT JUST THE HOUND DOG FRATURNITY.
THIS PROBLEM IS FAR BIGGER US HAVING A BEEF WITH WARDENS. IT IS ABOUT A SHOW THAT TRANSLATES INTO ANTI HUNTING AND FISHING LEGISLATION.
RESPECTFULLY
JIM HARRIS
