what are the good and bad about this system my uncle uses it and it seems to work real well in our parts of steep mountain and wide river

The only bad thing about a bluebox is the bulk. Performance wise it is the best I've ever used. Every dog truck should have one. For foot work I like my QTR 6000. The more i use it the more i like it. The bluebox doesn't work when it gets wet but i guess most wouldn't.

i`ve owned wildlife and quick track, and i think that the qt is a 100% better system.

I have only used Wildlife and love it.. We have the 1000 for the truck, but also have a 10 that we use for any footwork.. Never tried anything else and I really don't see any reason too...

I love my QT 6000,it will track right with Wildlife.Plus have the advantage of tracking anything

I am constantly checking out systems. I have found that most systems today perform about the same. I have tested the wildlife blue box. It receives as good as the QTR-6000. I have tested the Tracker. It too has about the same reception as the Wildlife and the QTR. It is not as accurate with the small antenna, but with a Yagi, it is. I also tested the MT-8000 with the M-2 (magnum telemetry mini antenna) and it ranked up there with the Blue box.


It depends on your preference.

I owned the Icom R-10 and with the booster and a yagi I could track with the blue box. Lots of people said i was crazy but i would always prove them wrong.

chris one thing to think about if your group is like mine we all got blue boxs for the truck i personally had a 2000 but couldnt afford to by a second i wanted a max 5000 for convenience of walking the blue not very convenient. plus i was never in the truck cant stand to be couped up, i like going where the dogs go. so i sold my 2000 and and bought a 5000 and never looked back. i still know that the blue tracks better over distance but i havent lost a dog yet since going to the other. all it takes is practice and the desire and you can get what ever you need out of what ever you got.

We've had to reinforce all of our connections on our cables cause they stop working after a time. The first thing I do when I buy a new cable is brace/splint popsicle stick pieces around it and strap on the electrical tape. Seems to extend the life of the cables. Nothing I hate worse than having to strip a cable to bare wire and work on holding it in the connection opening on the box while trying to keep the connection long enough to get a location when it's zero degrees and the laurel is so thick you can't even sneeze. Funny no one else seems to mention this maybe I'm doing something wrong but experience has taught me if you don't splint your connections you'll be pullin out a second cable from your pack somewhere along the line and at the most inoppertune time.
64 channel and above use the same battery- 48 and below have smaller power source a bit less range. Good luck, Paul Conway.

Very good information on here. I love the Wildlife 1000 other than the bulk. Where are you getting new coax cable for them? Has anybody tried a spring loaded Marshall antannae on a Wildlife box?

I've noticed the same thing with the cables. Alway s carry a spare. Never splinted them though. I even carry a spare cable with my QTR. That little 6 in coax can get ripped apart pretty easy driving through the junk. Always a good idea.

With the blue boxes and us. They stay in the truck most of the time as well and the little boxes go to the woods.
