I got a thing in the mail from oregon hunters assoc. the other day and the cover of the envelope said the antis are trying to ban ALL bear hunting in oregon. How retarded are they going to get? Ban using dogs for bears and cougars and let the bear population explode and then make it illegal to kill one period. Oh...and then let wolves come across the river so between the bears, lions, and wolves they can totally wipe out our deer and elk herds. If i had long enough hair to pull I'd be bald lol. Our hunting oppurtunities in oregon are dwindling

?.....what....we have been banned in oregon with the use of hounds since 1994 under measure 18. hounds have since been prohibited unless on private ground.if this is true it is reference to the suit by "big wildlife" an environmental activist group based in southern oregon. they are wanting to restrict sport hunting. sport hunting is not the problem...the problem is the odfw dropped its mandate about a decade ago that says it must adopt a management plan....why would the state want to comply?
since our loss with measure 18 the oregon department of fish and wildlife has adopted the use of hiring the federal government to snare our bears and we actually pick up the balance of what the private land owners don't pay for in this process. the mind set is sport hunters can't meet management objectives and hence the logic....odfw has no management plan that goes beyond usda in oregon....if it weren't a fact i would have been able to actually acquire bear statistics from odfw not usda....or i had to go to usda first and request this information and have it forwarded to odfw....(i'm sick of the fox guarding the chicken coop)
besides hounds leave the ownership and this has caused so much of our problems...we sport hunters didn't conduct ourselves as we should back in the day....i give this up in the case....but what i'm firmly against is what has replaced our hounds and that is the baited snare.... snares are quiet and catch both targeted species and non targeted alike.(what is wrong with this picture?) hope you don't actually have a problem with your money being spent this way? after all these same land owners don't want you to hunt deer or elk or any predators on their ownerships any longer....however....they sure don't seem to have a problem accepting your money. unless "management" returns straight across the board in oregon the best thing that can happen is to shut it down....this is the only way we can bring all the players to the table....i have to concede....if you own it you own it.you want to control it all.....fine...you own your problems......all of the problems good and bad....
my goal is to bring back "management" in oregon for all the big and small game mammals. i want odfw to manage and if you reject this notion then so be it....no relief for you...you get what you get...i want usda to remove itself from replacing the sport hunter and get back on track in doing what they were intended to do in oregon and that is predation. i have been accused of being anti odfw and usda...i'm not...both have just lost there way in oregon and i'm intent on returning sport hunting to sport hunters and predation to usda and game management to odfw through education....end of story....
we are in the process of the oregon legislature adopting regulations pertaining to this same style for cougar removals at sport hunter expense not to mention tax dollars...i seem to have struck a nerve when the education process began to sweep across oregon.....black bears are no different nor are deer, elk, and any other big or small game mammal...sport hunters are the only true conservationist and no other entity does any thing for wildlife enhancement efforts. the preservation of our animals depends on we sport hunters not anti activism.....why should we take back seat to any one?
