I have never seen one with such a long and narrow head.
We had to add additional material to the collar to keep it from going over her ears and head.
Maybe Dale Lee had something when he said there was an Onza...didn't think to see them this far north.!!!

I don't know if it is a separate species or a common oddity of growth. Like bobcats often show a marked difference in size and coloration in the same range. I have a couple areas that it isn't uncommon to catch very light colored cats that are larger and taller over all then the smaller Grey colored cats that are far more common in my area.

I think as well it is likely a deformaty in growth, I wish I had taken a couple more photo's.
Her head is very narrow and a long neck, we may have to recapture her if the blowoff on the collar does not work and can get more photos then.
In the book about Dale Lee , there was mention of a subspecies , I feel this is likely a growth defect like you say .

Biggest one I have caught was when I was just starting out and I let a client kill her...(live and learn) she was a good female and would have produced some good toms ...we weighed her at 112 lbs so minus about 6-8 lbs of mule deer, not much over that 100 lb mark....

Is that a loteck collar? I was wondering how you padded that collar to fill in the extra gap?

Last spring we collared a young tom. I left some extra gap on the collar to compensate for growth. He was only about 80# at the time. I used some foam that we had handy, I think it's considered closed cell foam, to line the collar. I attached the foam with electrical tape in hopes that after six months or so it would fall off leaving the collar close to fit.

I found the collar about two months later. Apparently the electrical tape didn't stay attached long enough and part of the foam fell out leaving the collar loose enough that the lion was able to slip it over his ears.

Just curious, funny looking head on that cat for sure!

We are using Loteck for all the cats, some have serious issues with taking fixes, other work find....frustrating for the money they cost.
Good ol duct tape did the trick on the padding ....when I recapture her it will be interesting to see how it held up.
