FINALLY got my pups :)

Well, after a long wait and some help from a very good friend I finally have my new editions to the Big Horn Posse. :) I am so excited to have them. The female is a cool dun color redtick I call Puma, cause she is the color of a puma. Onza is also a cool colored redtick hard to explain his coloring, little bit dun colored with red and blue mix going on. I took them out hunting this morning and the ranch I wanted to hunt I noticed had M-44's all over it  Hate those things. Ruined a prime lion hunting spot. So left there and decided to try to get up to the top of the mountain and hike around. Got ALMOST to the top before I got sucked in the edge and pulled off the road. I wasn't stuck too bad, but didn't bring a shovel and didn't want to bury myself more so I called for help. I let the pups exprience their first look at snow while we waited. I took some pics of them messing around in the snow :)

they are from 2 different litters. The female (Puma) is almost 12 weeks old. She is Hendrix on the bottom and Goswick and old Jeff Allen blood on the top. The male (Onza) is also just under 12 weeks and is line bred Hendrix. They are similar breeding to Bella on the Hendrix side. Like Bella I got them from Benny G in New Mexico. :)

M-44's or better knows as Getters are cyanide guns used to control coyotes. Firing a 38 Special case with with a waxen slug of cyanide which becomes gas when the coyote bites and pulls on the baited getter. These have been banned on public land and should be everywhere! No telling how many fine working and sporting dogs have been killed by these. Also many slack assed people get ahold of them set them and do not put up signs and do not go retrieve them and even humans have been killed by these devices.

an M-44 is a cianide cap they put out for coytes. They use a scent on them that attracts canines. The dog will bite it and in about 20 seconds the dog is dead. Game over. Lots of gov trappers use them on the ranches here. Bad news for any dog that may stumble across them. They have markers where they are located so people can see them, but if you're free casting dogs or dogs are on a track and happen to run across one then it is game over for your dog. I will not risk my dog's life with them for any lion.

so basically its leaving a loaded gun lying around unatended. that sounds crazy ,but for someone protecting their livestock they must think it is a risk worth taking. wow!

Taken from the USDA Site

www.aphis.usda.gov/publications/wildlif ... device.pdf

The M-44 ejector device is an effective and environmentally sound wildlife
damage management tool. The spring-activated device delivers a dose
of cyanide powder to targeted animals. It uses a cyanide capsule that is
registered as a restricted-use pesticide by the Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA). The device can be used only by trained certified applicators.
WS is authorized to use M-44 cyanide capsules to control coyotes, wild
(feral) dogs, and red, gray, and arctic foxes which are: suspected of preying
upon livestock, poultry, or federally designated threatened and endangered
species; or are vectors of communicable disease. The program’s use of
M-44 devices strictly conforms to EPA label instructions, directions, and
use-restrictions; applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations;
and agency and program directives and policies.
WS personnel do not use M-44s on any property unless requested
by the land’s owner or manager; a valid written cooperative agreement,
agreement for control, Memoranda of Agreement, or other applicable
document must be in place.

How an M-44 Works
The M-44 ejector device consists of four components: a capsule holder
wrapped with cloth, wool, or other soft material; a cyanide capsule (small
plastic container holding sodium cyanide); a spring-activated ejector; and
a 5 to 7 inch stake. In the fi eld, the stake is inserted with the top fl ush
with the ground’s surface. With the ejector cocked and set, the capsule is
inserted into its holder and screwed onto the ejector. The ejector is secured
into the stake. Specially formulated fetid bait or other scent material, which
elicits a “bite and pull” response by the target animal, is smeared on the
wrapped capsule holder.

Devin, I did thank Jake we texting when I found out he got them up here and I thanked him again after I picked them up. That is one thing I always do is say thank you. I was not going to post it on the net cause I know he doesn't like his name on here and I respect that. I also thanked Nathan. Don't know why he said I didn't say thank you. :(
