There are hardly any Weimaraners left that have enough game drive to hunt birds anymore. I would probably stay away from them. They have mostly become a show dog and have a bad reputation around bird dog circles which is what they were originally bred for. Probably a stretch to hunt lions with them.

I had one years back that would find any elk/deer or hog that got hit bad. He was a blood trailing champ.. He would even point when he found the animal. He was one of a kind!!

When I was very young my Dad and a partner of his in the bird dog business raised a bunch of them. continental pointers were becoming quite vogue back then and the beautiful gray ghosts certainly were eye catchers. They has some outstanding dogs that came directly out of Deutch lines but it seemed the breed got watered down quickly and soon you had those ponderous show giants that were about as useless in the hunting field as titts on a boar hog. If you are thinking about a German pointing breed that would also trail and catch game forget these and go directly to the Draathar thread and study a little. DD's were bred much more intgently and culled ruthlessy for a longer period of time. They are supreme hunters and if there is anything such as an all around sporting dog they are most likely it.
