We all use the 2200 Icoms, yes, my mike finally went bad after three years. You can buy the mic switch from any icom dealer for 2.85$. You, or any radio, or tv place can put them in. The reason, I use them, is my hand helds are very similiar to program, like the truck radio. Also, the icom, you can run on 5 watts out of the truck, for the garmin. The Yaseau is also a good radio, with less mike problems, Im not sure of cutting the power and how many watts, you may want to check. I believe they will. Whatever you choose, follow suit with your hand helds, to eliminate confusion for programing. The icom,2200 is 169.00 at aesham.com. The mod for murs is simple, and can be found at mods.dk, and takes ten minutes to do. There is other sites, with simple directions and photo's to do it also.

Dean, in this flat country, summer and folage, about 20 miles, winter 30 miles, pushing 65 watts. On 5 watts, around 5 miles. They are like any other radio wave length, its line of site.

Dean, it sounds like you need satellite radio's. And then I could tune in on your race from WI. :D :D
