This is just my 2 cents i would imagine a dog that is fast would do great but you run the risk of putting it in a tree way to fast and having it come out of the tree and running on ya id say a medium speed dog that has grit is what i would look for but thats just me though . every one else has there preferences on dogs i like the big long legged long eared b&t but agine thats just me .

Fast and gritty dogs are what you want. Takes speed to catch up to the bear, takes grit to hold them and make them change their mind.

You would be surprised how noise puts up more bear vs speed! In this area anyways.

grit and speed are both a must. grit is only nesicary when ya get one that wants to fight. speed is always needed. if you are hunting where there is more than one bear ya better have a dog that can locate. what we've ran into a little is bears poppin right up and all that grit and speed takes over and they over run the tree and within a hundred yards they hit more scent and keep a runnin. I think alot of noise will put up the nice ones in a hurry. the mean educated ones could care less. that's my 2 cents.

If you want to run 100#ers you may want speed but when was the last time you got outran by a 400# + bear. May have got out dogged but not outran.
