I just noticed my 6 m/o walker has an abscess the size of a baseball on her chest. Last night it wasn't there. No wounds or cactus to get infected. It's kinda hard. When I lanced it, only a little bit of blood came out. The lump remains. I'm putting her on anti-bi right now. has this happened to anyone? Every time i lance abscesses, the liquid is either clear or pussy, not just blood. Any advice help.

It could be a bite from a spider or some other insect.

Here is how I treated a simiar sounding lump on a dog's neck (with vet's advice):

-Start dog on anti biotic, I used Combi Penn
-Cut a hole in the lump, sounds like you already lanced it, make sure hole is the size of your finger.
-flush lump with large syringe full of Hydrogen Peroxide 1st day (i think i used a 15cc syringe, but the size does not matter, some times pushed 2-3 syringes full per day)
- Next day flush the hole/lump with syringe full of Iodine

Repeat,

day 3 Hydrogen Peroxide
day 4 Iodine.....etc .....etc.....repeat until it heals, swelling goes down...etc, you will know when to stop.

In order to really be able to flush the lump, you will probably have to stick your finger in the hole and work it around to be able to have the liquid reach all of the tissue that is affected. The hole will try to heal/ swell shut, you have to break it open and move your finger around to irrigate the lump wth the HP and iodine.

This worked for the lump my dog had. I dont know if your pooch has the same type of lump or not. Good luck

Some kinda bite thats what i'm thinking. I opened it up again today and just blood with some clear liquid. No cloudiness at all.

We had the whole pack in an area over grown with cholla cactus and known for rattlers on Saturday morning. Or maybe a black window or brown recluse found her in the kennel? :(

Dexamethasone should be in any hound first aid kit exspecially in NM a shot of pen and a shot of dex and they will be good to go its the same thing they would give you for a spider bite and it is good for any other swelling the dog might get from animal bites but I'm not a vet just a dam good self trained dog doctor.
