You always here of guys catching lions in the dry arid mountains in the summer but you never really hear of guys in the bigger mountains that get more moisture.(I don't anyway and if you are catchin them no offense.) So i was thinking on it and my conclusion is the more dew at night but still the low humidity in the day. Or am I just blind to the fact and guys are gettin it done up and Im settin here not hunting. Just talking about it.

One reason is most high mountains are all public land and most Western states don't have summer seasons. Since all houndsman are law abiding, no one is hunting hahaha. Another reason is not many folks with bear broke dogs.

When its 95-100 degrees not many longtails Get caught anywhere with turd hounds

I think the guys catchin em alot are the guys running em alot, in AZ we only have a few areas open all year, so maybe there are more people in those areas gettin them kitties movin more. Alot of it is desert to. Thats were I should be right now instead of sittin on here, next week for sure though!!!

since our bear season shut down I have been out a few times up high. seems like my dogs are in full bear mode. they don't want to slow down and grind. also the first bear track they cross you know where they're headed. I think next year I will keep one or two dogs off the bears just for that reason.

We hunt a lot on dry ground and we have more success in the low to middle country because the lions leave good tracks that can be seen. The dogs trail better when there is a track that can be seen. If the dogs loose the trail then we have a better chance of helping them get started again. Up high on the very top, you might find a track on a dusty road but when the lion leaves the road he is walking on hard ground covered with pine needles and other brush and doesnt leave a print at all, even the best dirt dogs stuggle. When we have treed lions on top they usely are close on a kill or lying on a ridge.
