Why do some men chase dogs a year some have a dog or two for the life of the dog and some have dogs there whole lives.

My wife says it is because I lack common sense, good judgement and brains to come in out of a snow storm/rain storm/ 20 below weather... you get the idea.
Hound hunting is a disease with no cure.

i do it for the dogs! i love the feeling after you get done working a dog in the off season and then you go out in the hunt and put your dog(s) on whatever it is that you want to catch and you put it up the tree. its just a big accomplishment in my eyes to see a dog progress and all the hard work you put into the dogs and it all pay off. its turned into a way of life for me its not about the money its about the dogs and the great people you meet and have great times with. just what i feel

Azhunter I second that. Bunnies to bear it don't matter I love to work pups. Its like watching yer kids grow into the adults you mold them into. My opinion anyhow.

Same thing that makes a 3 month old pup wag his tail the first time he smells game, I don't know why he does it, he don't know why he does it. Just instinct, just like it affects some pups it only affects some people.

For me the reason why this is so addicting is the dogs. It's the reward you get when your dogs succed. I love the challenge of it. It's something you can't just forget about eather, when ever i go out and feed or work with my dogs it get the bug to hunt and that happens every day.

Hard to describe the feelings sometimes .You are either ALL IN or ALL OUT .Being retired has its advantages .I swear sometimes when I go out to the kennel in the morning the Hounds have a SMILE on their face

Can't prove it but I swear they KNOW THEY LIVE FOR THE HUNT .The biggest challenge is when the hounds are dumped out trying to think 2 or 3 steps ahead of what we think the hounds and Bears might be doing It is as much a MENTAL game as it is a PHYSICAL GAME . After 40 years of chasing the hounds and THINKING you knew every sq mile ,It is amazing the things we take for granted and the CHANGES Mother Earth has done to our territory.

I think the guy who wrote "Where The Red Fern Grows" is responsible for alot the people that are into hounds. Wonder if we could make a law suit stick for the sickness? lol

For me I would say its the bond between a man and his dogs. The undescrible feeling of training, molding and creating something from nothing in a dog. The companionship I recieve from my dogs is something I prize the most. The ups and downs, emotional roller coaster of listening to a good race sends chills down my spine like a bull bugling in the timber. I would have to say that my favorite part of a race would be the first long bawl on a cold track ; seems to me like the dog is saying..." Yup....its go time!

Because i like hounds more than a lot of people i know . My hounds are happy to see me all the time never bitch its to cold to hot to wet to hunt or stab you in the back .They just want to hunt like me . We have a good bond and thats something you cant have with a lot of people only a true houndsman knows what Iam talking about.
