I have a leopard coming this fall. Does anyone consistantly catch bears with them?? I see most are used on cats and don't see a lot of info posted on hunting bears with them.
Just thought i would give them a whirl.

Lepcur and Grey Fox run a ton of bears with theirs, they are bear dogs first and foremost!

I think you'll really like them on bear, they do a good job for me and they make hunting alot more enjoyable too. Mike

Lots of different ways, but briefly they want to please you so they handle like a yard dog instead of being hard headed, they will listen and a voice command is all thats needed, super easy to keep off of unwanted game, most of my dogs will be broke off trash with just a scolding or a woopin and usually once is enough and after that they know you don;t want them running that particular animal, I don't have to drag my dogs all the way back to the truck off a tree on a leash thru thick brush, I tell them let's go to the truck and they follow me. Sure makes it more enjoyable to me. Mike

I have a 1/2 lep cur 1/2 plott mix that i was not thrilled about when i got her but now she is my favorite dog. She is the only dog that never wears a bark collar (I live in town) and just a couple of weeks ago i ran her on a trainer coon with my other dogs and after they had it stretched i called her off, walked her back to my truck off of a leash, told her to load, and she did right away. She gives me more and more all the time i can't wait to see how she does durring bear season.

All these things can be done with hounds also its called handle and discipline. My hounds handle in these same ways. If a hound is left on a chain and only taken off to hunt then they might be unruley. But if you treat them like yard dogs and hunt hem like hounds then they will be a joy to be around. not arguing just sayin.

After having both and using and treating them the same you will notice a difference on how 1 can pick up things a lot faster. Not saying that one is better than the other and every dog has traits that are better and worse but it all boils down to the owner and how they train, hunt and everything else with a dog. Some dogs just fit people and there style and attitude better with how they hunt.

I thing I have noticed, when I started a walker pup with my two cur dogs, Burger and Cookie the pup soon took to trailing and running a track, and drifting it at a run leaving the other trail type hounds in the dust. I find the hounds will behave the same as a cur, they just take more work to get to the same place.

I agree, you can MAKE a hound listen, I had hounds before these leps. and I know the differences, I'm just saying why force them when the leps do it naturally and I've never seen 1 hound break off of off game like these dogs do. Believe me, I went thru the lead pills because I got tired of the hard headedness and ya still have to go thru the headaches to get them to handle. JMO Mike
