I guess it will matter what the boundaries are for the areas, female sub quota is good though. They dont really get into detail on the female sub quota though, if the DWR continues their cougar managment as they have in the past the sub quota will likely be alot higher than it should be.
"But when the number of adult deer in a herd is below average," Bunnell says, "that's an indication that cougars might be one of the factors that are limiting the growth of the herd" Its also a indication that alot of deer are being hit by cars, that coyotes are overpopulated, that their habitat is overpopulated with elk, and livestock, that it was a rough winter and alot of adult deer did not make it.

I'm sure whatever they are doing is NOT going to benefit the lions. The female quota is a great idea, but like was said.....they'll probably allow way to many before it closes

The female sub quota is great. We now have a obligation to attend the rac meetings and voice our concerns, or E-mail the dwr and let them know how we feel as houndsmen towards cougars and how they are being managed. Good luck guys and lets be proactive in this one.

We have been beggin for a female subquota for years. It will be nice to watch all the clowns shoot themself in the foot, every female that hits the ground counts toward closing the region. No matter if its limited entry unit or harvest objective.
The region management is a direct reflection of the "emergency" opening of closed units, from our cowardly director. Basically combine all the harvest objective tags per region and have atter.
NONE of this matters if they dont stay with the plan and make it up as they go. LIKE THEY HAVE BEEN DOING!!!!
Bottom line NOBODY @ the udwr will stand up and tell the "sfw"
15 YEARS AND ZERO RESULTS, SHUT UP AND MOVE ON TO SOMETHING ELSE!!!!
HOW CAN THESE CLOWNS NOT SEE THIS?????

- 9 large management areas... each area made up of smaller units. Units used to set hunting permit numbers for entire area....After setting permit numbers for units they add them all together and that is the permit numbers for the entire area. Hunting continues on all units until total number of permits for entire area is reached. The number of female cougars taken in an area "could" result in an area being closed early.
The concern I see is that the units within an area that have good lion numbers/habitat would end up getting hammered since closures are based on the total number of permits for the area and not the numbers set for the units. How is this "more percise management"?
As far as the female quota, it looks like any closures based on female harvest would be up to the DWR. Maybe the will, maybe they wont...They"could"..... but would they???
Kevin Bunnell, Wildlife Section chief for the DWR, "In a situation like this," he says, "temporarily increasing the number of cougars that are taken can allow a deer population to expand."
Yea right.....

this is just my two cents to me it sounds like they are trying to limit us to a specific area instead of wide free ranging . i dont like the lil mini units in a big unit keep it open . now the female sub quota dont sound like a very good idea to me, but its just my two cents here maybe every other year do a fixed number of say 1 females to 4 tom tags

BOTTOM LINE!!!! Hound hunters are going to have to stop killing females!! There isn't enuff lion left to reach the female sub quota they are going to be set way to high to even help.....all the changes are is a make shift way so people think the DWR gives a sh8t about lions....there was numerous females WERE CHECKED IN that obviously had kittens nurseing last year and no tickets were issued and it is documented that several orphan kittens had to be put down.....WTF!!! The Dwr wants all lions dead to peaz Don and the SFW!!!
