I was in cabellas today and noticed that sport dog has a gps tracker for dogs. has anybody tried one? anybody know about this????

I guess I'll talk to myself if yall don't know. I looked it up online and it has gps and a shocker! somebody has to have one somewhere????? let us know how it is. I doubt it could be as good as garmin, but if it is I will boycott garmin in a HURRY!

$700 for the unit and one collar, each collar is $350. I heard it doesnt have track memory. But like I said that is what I heard, I dont know how much truth is behind it. But it is a shocker and a GPS, so the price of one collar would be comparable to buying a Garmin and a Tri-Tronics collar.

This is what I just got on a comparison of the two, after pulling it up on the web.

If GPS is truly important to you, then get a Garmin Astro 220 GPS. Garmin is known for its GPS functionality, so it's no surprise that the Astro is all map-history based. Want to know where the dog is? The Astro shows you a map of the trails that each of your dogs has run. And while the Garmin's base map that comes with handheld unit doesn't have advanced info, you can add mapping options with topographical details, such as major and minor roads, waterways (including lakes, streams, creeks, and rivers), and elevation.

The TEK series does not have any mapping options. It does allow you to mark locations with waypoints, just as the Astro does, but you can't add maps at any point.

Hold on Cowboys. I'm sure you guys are aware that Garmin purchased Tri-Tronics. What do you thinks their plans are? Let's just hope it happens soon!

It will be nice if they come out with a E-collar/GPS collar. I am sure they will, but probably not untill they sell a bunch of Astro 320's. Then they will come out with the new unit that does both that everyone will have to get.

I would like them to keep the Astro and the shockers separate. If one part goes down for repairs you loose both. Keeping them separate works for me.

From the reviews I've read, the SportDog just sounds like a glorified telemetry. It tells you the direction that the dogs are pointing, and how far from you, but no maps. Again this is what I've collected from others reviews and wish I was 100% wrong!

I prefer to have them separate. No need to share batteries or anything else for that matter. I had a name plate collar-telemetry-shocker on each dog for years. When I first got a Garmin I just put name plates on my shockers and ran three collars (telemetry-shocker-Garmin). It isn't really that big of deal to me. I sure hope they keep a separate option when they do release their new collars. They have already shown their willingness to delete a perfectly good collar to make way for the bigger and better DC-40. Hopefully that trend doesn't continue.

you nailed it george!

the shocker can be removed, it just fasten's to the gps collar in which if it goes bad just take it off for repair or you can buy it later and add to your collar. Marshall is coming out with a gps that has telemetry built in with their gps collar so you dont have a dog with a host of collars on his neck, suppossed to be out this year, i'm waiting for it. its suppossed to have more features than the garmin.

the shocker on the sportdog just attaches to the collar, it can be removed if needed or you can buy it seperate and add later. marshall is coming out with a gps with telemetry combined in case your dog doesnt have a girraffe neck.

I would really like to try marshals system but no one knows when it will be out
