I'm gonna give you a reply that you may not agree with but here goes - if dogs run a cat and don't catch it or tree it, and it makes it to safe refuge in a hole in the the rocks or in a brush or log pile, then that cat deserves to live to run another day.

Just my two cents - Good Hunting!

Get u a Patterdale dog for the brush piles.
Don,t let him in a hole in the ground,
he will never come out. Will did himself a grave.

I thought about the little Patterdales. I know a guy that has some. I don't want them to hole up either though! I'm tryin to root them cats out to start a pup with. Thought it would be a decent plan since I don't have a cat hound and ain't much of a trapper. I heard if you get on BGH and just ask that someone would give you a solid cat hound, as they are abundant on here. :beer

tomtom, the bobcats in the north will not bolt from a brushpile. they will hold there to the death, unlike grey fox who will often bolt from a terrier. you will have as much trouble getting a terrier out of the brushpile as you would a hole in the ground. plus, the terrier is a whole way of life that will not really do anything to help your bobcat dogs. This is my opinion based on my experience. I used them and love them. They are amazing. But I will never again send one in on a bobcat. I wouldn't mind owning another one though just because they are like watching a cartoon.

Spend just a tiny fraction of the time a terrier would require to do this: learn the trapping laws and methods. Bobcats are genius regarding dogs. They are not too smart regarding traps.

x3 on the Patterdals or Jadgs. If i tie the hounds back, the little black demons will either push the cat twice as far back, but sometimes if they can get behind them, they can / will push them out. Usually to the first tree - if not I let the hounds go again. It's been averaging about 50/50% on success. It can be interesting getting the little dogs out if they don't get the cat out.
