Al Lynn

I was wondering if anybody out there has any material, or photos of Al Lynn.

Al was a famous lion and bear hunter from California who was mostly noted for being a very astute hound breeder. He wrote for the early Full Cry magazine for a number of years. He went missing mysteriously on a hunt and was never seen or heard of again. He had made some enemies as he would not sell dogs to very many folks. I know Dale Lee thought he just had an accident or a heart attack out hunting and was never found. Others beleive he was taken out, but nothing was ever found.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I too , enjoyed alot of his articles as he was very much ahead of his time on inbreeding and linebreeding and at that time inbreeding was very taboo. I miss him and alot of the old time big game authors of Full Cry like Dick Muldoon, Obe Cory, Steve Mathis, Del Cameron, Emit Brohard, Ola Forbes, The Lees etc.

I enjoyed his articles very much also. I have alot of my old full cry magazines sorted out that had his articles in them for reference mateial.
I'm not old enough to have read the originals but kept all the reprinted stuff that Full Cry put out a number of years ago.

Mike, I have little doubt that it was foul play for several reasons. I am not about to print anything here that would be subject to a libel suit. We spent several long days looking for his body. If you are really interested, call me, but I will not post what I know.

Anyone ever consider getting someone like Americas Most Wanted , or Cold Cases TV shows involved in this cold case? It is an unusual case that would probably excite them for a chance to re create a good unusual case, especially with it happening in California, the expense of recreation would be small, and we all kind of owe it to Al to maybe dig up some new evidence after all these years.

How about a refresher on what exactly went on for those of us that don't know. Picking up bits and pieces from the posts, but this has got my curiousity. Would like to hear what Cecil is talking about as well, can't get in trouble for stating your own experiences

From what I have learned of Al, I think after all this time he would rather just let sleeping dogs lie.

He, and old Ben Lilly, Charlie Tant, Steve Matthes, Wiley Carroll, Dale and Clell and a host of others like them are probably setting around some celestial campfire feeling sorry for all of us. LOL!

Mike, although I corresponded with Al Lynn many years ago (just before he disappeared), unfortunately, I did not keep any of the correspondence. I did purchase a female pup from him that died just as she was getting started. His daughter, who I believe was an aspiring actress in New York, agreed to sell me a started dog, but never did deliver. I suspect that she could sell it out there as it was priced very reasonably, and did not want to go to the trouble to ship it. I did not make an issue of it even though someone in Calif. who had hunted the dog told me it was very good.

Al told me that his first hunting was for bobcat in south-southwest Texas. He and I seemed to like the same kind of hunting and same type of dog.

As I recall the story some hunters passed his parked vehicle in the mountains with a couple of dogs in it, but he was no where around and they thought nothing of it since it was common for him to hunt by himself. Some days or a week later these same guys were again on that same road and his vehicle was still there with 2 very hungry dogs in it. So the search began, but they never found him. This man assured me they would find him even if it took the next year, but of course it never happened.

This man was a friend of Al's and told me that Al had been having chest pains for some time. They had told Al not to go by himself, but he was feeling better and went anyway. Neither this man nor Al's daughter mentioned any suspicion of nefarious activity to me, but I am not saying that such was not the case. It may be that they did not want to relate such to me, a perfect stranger.

hey its jack shareing this tid-bitt to ya 4 all westcoast bigbgame hunters too view an ponder : Al Lynn told all us hunters that he was a genitic folling gene pass-on trates contorsure of Walker dogs/we believed him ! Yrs. later after owning several Joe House dogs/streight-out of joes kennel pins in clinton ky. I was moved back too tn/ my birthland place an about 100 from joes house. I wanted to buy a puppy from joe now that I`m in tn and give my walkers away befor I left ca. ; an I drive over too joe place and introduce-myself in person too joe house. we talked/i brought-up al lynn an that al told us joe house`s dogs go back too one key female in all commen house line offsprings/ Houses Queen ! Joe house looked down an shoulk his head an softly said/ he was wrong . I reintered too joe how highly we in ca. noted on Al Lynn ! Joe nodded comformation to adknowledging that too be held a matter of fact. Then Joe added the real source of the well stream was House`s KING ! he said he was the smartest and allaround best and it was from him that it all sprang-forth too breed on and up from the get !Al Lynn didnt learn that from joe/Allyn dissapeared befor joe house finally narrowed-it-down right ! openions may change/but facts remain= Ed Bates allways use to say about the truth ! so i guess its worthy news and it took joe alot of house line of breeding walkers to be sure an too his held views it is rock-solid !jack of wa.st.
