Tone when you call him.If he ignores you put it on one.As soon as he starts coming put it back to tone.Remember to pet him up for coming to you.Biggest mistake i see collar isnt tight enough.I got a 5 yr old pen beagle did not come in.In 3 evenings i had him coming in.With difficult dogs a treat when they come in works alot.Hunted him tonight with no collar had no problems.Keep us posted how you make out.

Go to the local hardware store and buy you about 30 feet of 1/4 inch nylon rope. Then put you a dog snap on it. Tighten dogs collar (so it want slip off), attach your long lead to your dog with e-collar on, then turn your dog out of the kennel. With you holding the end of your long lead rope (don't let go) and the dog is running around at the end of this 30 foot lead, call your dog to you. If he doesn't respond give him a little shock (starting on intensity level 1 and working up) till you get his attention. At first they will rear and fight the end of the rope trying to get away. I'll call, then shock, then reel them in by hand and pet and praise him when I get him reeled in to me. Pet him real good for 2 or 3 minutes, then walk out to the end of your lead rope and repeat procedure. Do this 5 or 6 times the first day or till he comes to you on his own when called. Then quit for day. Second day repeat procedure again. It's amazing to me sometimes how they respond on the second day, seems like it kinda sinks in to their mind with a little time. Do this for 5 or 6 days, till they get to where when you call they come, every time. Always praising and petting them when they come to you. Then you are ready for off leash. You can also do this there at the house. Turn him loose, let him run around and play then call him to you, if he doesn't come give him a little shock, if you've done the above right he should come to you. Don't let him get 1/4 of a mile from you before you call him the first time off leash. Work at close range always praising him when he comes. When he gets this down real good around the house, your ready to go hunting. First time hunting call him to ya every now and then and pet him, he's gotta remember to come to ya when called no matter where he is. This might tighten him up a little at first from hunting, but he'll loosen back up latter. They gotta get the handle down first, then they can start hunting.
This dog sounds like he don't care where you (master) are when he's hunting, he just does his own thing. "Three counties over". I would try to keep him in tight at first so you can keep control of him, so he won't go back to his old ways (deaf ears).
When I'm working with a dog as described above, I don't like other dogs to be loose around the house distracting them. I want their full attention, them and me. Well that's how I do it, and it works for me. I don't know if it will help you are not, just thought I'd throw it at ya. Good luck with whatever ya do. Robbie
