Now you are starting to see what managing wildlife is all about! Since the later 1970's lions were put on the federal protected list in Cal. Now if they were managed along with all predators It could be different. What I mean is you have to start from the top We our selves. Growth of population, over hunting, vehicles and road ways, poaching, pissing and moaning when you have a house in the mountians that all of your bushes got ate, and all the other things that we create. What is not understood is that when the prey of a predator is on the decline so is the predator. It blows my mind that pointing the finger at one single predator and I repete one single predator can calm and soothe your Thoughts!!!! Well I guess thats how alot of sportsmen are!!! If it wasn't for the lion I would have had me a great buck!!!!! Don't ever look in the mirror you might find the truth!!!!

I agree with mojo on this one. I see it all the time here, a hunter shoots a 2 point every year and then complains that their are no big bucks left, and blames it on lions. They can't stop to think maybe they are the problem. This is how it is where i hunt, in cali. it could be different.

ok so the real problem is the California Dept of Fish and Game. They do a piss pore job of managing the wildlife. Now what do you do about this problem. I have wrote, called, e-mailed, and talked to a lot of people and everything just seems to keep on getting worse. I guess the bigger problem is seeing something wrong and waiting for everyone else to fix it while you just bitch every year. or maybe it is the people who complain and oppose when the game dept. tries to give more bear hunting oportunity.

Now let me start by telling everyone that although I live in Texas I am a Californian at heart. I was born and raised in that state and my roots are still there. However I will say that the real problem lies in the hands of the people of Ca. No, not you the hunters or sportsmen. I'm talking the voting majority in the state. The ones that don't known their a_ _ from a hole in the ground when it comes to wildlife. These are the people that have the hands of the Fish and Game tied behind their backs. One more reason I moved!

I also agree that you can't blame all the deer decline on Cats. Many predators are involved in this including but not limiting to Bear, Coyote, Cats (long and short tail), Eagles, Humans. I'm sure I left some out. I'd also like to say that I placed those in no particular order. JMHO

Sorry but your cat numbers aren't that good if there are no deer around.

oroville california, google mountain lion and you will see 8 full grown cats from a trail cam photo on one dead cow.i dont think people understand how many cats there are.fish and game wardens killed over a hundred last year due to complaints according to a game warden, i talked too.im not just blaming the cats,it has alot to due with poaching, fires, logging, hunting, water, and dease and so on that effect deer.this isnt my first rodeo.everbody that has been with me bear hunting has asked where are the deer?bear hunting you cover miles and miles of roads.i want know if any body else see the cat problem we have?you out of state lion boys would crap your pants if they ever opened it to hunting lions.like quail around here.does any body see deer?what about all the lion tracks.

This is just one of many problems in California directly linked to the majority of the residents of our state. If we can develop a humane method of removing many many millions from the the SF/Sac and LA/SD metro areas it would be a good start. But I haven't any ideas, so I just pray for mother nature to take everything west of the san andreas into the ocean. It's a long shot, but maybe the best we chance we have.

There's your answer right there! The dfg is just doing the job that is handed to them. If you live out and see things first hand you are the minority. Doom and Gloom to follow: It wont be long in this state that all predators will be on the majorities "saved list"! Then what? Well, then all that is predator food will be saved for them only! Would be nice to be a native american, they will always be able to hunt and fish!

Well, after checking the where-abouts of this san andreas and finding that the Great State of Jefferson would stay dry, I will agree with your slightly extreme view!

fires and logging really? I am sure a small number of deer die in wildfires but it creates a lot of new growth and food for animals. I would like to hear how logging hurts numbers though. I am sure your excuse will be spoken like a true tree hugging hippie. The Biggest problem is uneducated non hunting hippies voting on thing like saving the pretty kitties. The non hunting population vastly outnumbers the hunters in this state. They are a lot more vocal also.

Hippies, Are there still a few floating around? I thought ya just call them greenies, city slickers, antis and a$$holes, that's what I call em. Seriously tho, I agree with shorty, when the voting public passes this $hit into law it takes it all out of the hands of f&g and why aren't the wardens out there busting poachers instead of hasseling every dog rig they pass. I sure see alot of road kill deer on the roads around here and I think they a the deer that all the do gooders feed in their yards cause when in the woods ya don't see any.

its a certain race that kills way to many deer in cali and yes there are TONS OF CAT here if they opened it up to hunters the numbers that got killed would be super high or the quota would be filled way to fast thats just my 2 cents

Hippies? We now call them growers! Poor souls just getting by growing meds for sick folk! Unlike lions they kill deer that take a likun to their crop and leave the carcass for the buzzards. It seems that where cattle are raised there are more deer and less cats. Wonder why? You don't suppose that the good ole boys.....??................NAH! MY BAD!
