So I got my 320 in the mail today and was thinking about the birds eye view. I have not purchased it yet and gotta wait for the wifes approval... :agmnt however I was wondering if anyone out there as already gotten it. My question is, Are the sattelite images you have to choose from taken in the fall or spring? or Can you choose from specific dates similiar to google earth. Anyone who has looked at google earth in thick country like where I hunt knows that images taken in the spring and summer are worthless because all you see is green, and trees.

i did not think the astro could get much better, until i got birdseye for my 320. without a doubt.

but like you said, pretty much all satellite imagery is taken when its nice and green out in the late spring/summer. theres no option to choose a set from a different season. the images in my area are very recent - from the last year or so. this could differ depending on where you are. but the resolution is so high, i can still see gametrails and very small details in the terrain just fine.

And from the other side I'm really not all that impressed. I definitely use it and like it, it's just that the image quality from the sections I've downloaded (all smaller than 50mb) aren't that great. You can see clearings and such, but the general picture is blurry and low resolution compared to google maps. Also, it takes a while to download. I'm going to try smaller sections and see how I feel about it after that. I've heard that the resolution gets better with smaller sizes - but more of a pita to get done.

You can select the resolution when you download. I always select the highest resolution because it's not very helpful on low resolution.

I'm not sure how I feel about it. It's cool, i just don't know how Useful it is for Hunting the dogs.

I agree with all of you....During a night hunt for coons, birdseye is great. I'm not too sure how much I'd be able to use it on a lion hunt though. I think a lot of it depends on the actual images for your individual area. I am fairly happy with most of the imagery for my area but some are not as good. Reguardless, it's a nice tool to have at your disposal for not a lot of money.

I don't know about the topo maps for anyone else's area but where I'm at a lot of the roads on the topo maps "leave a little to be desired" as far as how accurate and updated they are. I can say that the birdseye has them all correct and the creek paths are exact where on the topo's they arent always. It's nice to know when the dogs are on the North or South side of a creek when the crossings for mankind are few and far between.

I did the highest resolution. I queued a bunch of them and left the computer on to download them all for a few days. I like it, but not sure if I'd purchase again.
