Here's a picture of one of my Great Grandpa so I guess it runs in the family. Looks like he ran Blue dogs.

Fullcryhounds that picture is way cool. Wish I had some old hunting photos. It might sound dumb but what got me started is reading a book where the red furn grows when I was little I probly read it about 10 times

A couple of times when I was out elk hunting I had run into guys that had bears treed. They invited me to come and see what they had going on and I just thought that it was too cool. After I got hounds of my own I eventually ran into one of those guys again and became good friends. I started out with a redbone and a walker and a plott walker cross. The redbone and the walker turned out to be culls and the plott walker cross died of parvo, big lesson learned on vaccines there! Now I have a walker male, two bluetick females and a walker bloodhound cross female. I mostly run bear but have been trying to get into running cats. I used to run coons but got bored with it. My two boys and my oldest daughter love to go bear hunting with me, and I hope that they will pass that torch down to thier children some day.

My dad and I were the only hunters on either side of my family, though rumor has it my dads dad had hounds at one time, we don't know for sure, so we just consider ourselves the chosen ones of the family lol.
Now that I am rebuilding my own pack, I have a Plott female that dad and I raised, a Black and Tan/Bluetic/Walker female pup, and two Plott littermate brothers from Espanola New Mexico. As everyone know I prefer Plotts, but I will hunt and own whatever has the build I like and that hunts the way I like, with a couple exceptions!

I have 2 hounds and a Jagd. The hounds are both running walker with a very little plott. I run coyotes and bear here in Wisconsin, but I have to run with guys with treeing hounds to get them to tree very well, thats why running bear is more of a way to spend my summers than anything. I run a little bit of coon, opposum, ferel cat, and about anything that crosses the road infront of me with the Jagd. She also escapes from the truck now and then and joins in on a bear race too. As far as I know, I had a great grandpa that used to run fox with hounds and coon too I guess. I got started by going with my cousin who also didn't have anyone close to him who ran hounds. We are the only ones on either sides of our respectve famiies that run hounds, so we are always the late ones to christmas every year. LOL

I worked for an outfitter when I was too young to get a real job hauling firewood and helping around camp. This outfitter had hounds and did bear and lion hunts and would let me tag along. I always loved to hear the dogs open on a good track and work a cold one as well. I never realized how good his hounds were until I started raising and hunting my own. He taught me to never discount a dog for any reason until you've hunted it. This advice has helped me see through all the BS that people have tried to get me to believe over the years and make my own descisions about what I like best. I am not loyal to any color, breed, build, or bloodline, as I have seen them all perform admirably. Quite simply put, I like the good ones. I now prefer to hunt bears a little more than lions due to the warmer weather during lion season, but that doesn't mean any lions are safe from my mixed up pack of mutts.

My dad and grandpas all were houndsmen. When i was 5 my dad got me a blackandtan for my birthday and told me to have fun.I would leave the house after supper and hunt sometimes all night by myself. For my eighth birthday he bought me a 551 remington 22 to start shooting coons out with.Over the years i had every thing from plotts to walkers and now 20 years later i have five black and tans all that i have bred raised and trained myself for bear and still love it as much as i did when took that little dog out and treed my first coon when i was five. And thank god every day for letting me experiance it the way i did.
