Sam Ray's Tick dog and my Big Nosed Kate were littermated out of Allens original ACE a (grade walker) crossed on that black and tan colored female that Fennicum from Fredonia got from Stan Meacham and later Jeff Allen ended up with. She was part bluetick/black and tan and had a dash of bloodhound in her somehwere along the way. That black female wasn't worth ten cents as a hunting dog but for some strange reason when crossed on Ace she three some truely outstanding lion hounds. She was also later crossed on Hank who was another grade walker and a son of old Ace. This also provided some really great lion dogs ( Cindy) and such.

The Joker dog no doubt had great influence on what is knows as the ( Southern Utah Strain). these dogs were decendants of Jack Butler's dogs down thru men like Leon Cox, Garn Blackburn, Jerry Hughes and Milt Holt. They fired up the old strain a bit by injecting some of old California lion hunter Charlie Tant's crossed running walker strain and then bu adding in the Nance Joker blood they ended up with a near perfection type grade hound. Old Ace was the product of this line. Very few of the dogs referred to as Joker dogs were pure treeing walker although he was many had Southern Utah blood in them as well as other strains ( Jim Worthen) and even other hound breeds(redbone, bluetick, black and tan). but Joker was extreemly pre-potent evidently and seemed to be able to produce tough lion hounds about any way you took him.

Festus knows a lot more about him than anybody becasue the dog was in his family. :)
