Garmin/Marine radio use

I have recently purchased marine radios to use. Some one has now told me they will ruin the Garmin system. Could those of you who know (Buddy?) expand on this issue so those of us with marine bands can have the correct information? Sure would hate to lose our tracking system due to stupidity......thanks in advance for your help. Greg

Hey Greg,
Here is a post of Garmin's Response to this question.
In short there are No Guarantee's! Only Rules of thumb, Shoulda, Coulda, and Might...
But here are my thoughts.
You 320 should be fine, More than likely your 220 is good also. I wouldn't worry too much if your on the low watt settings and using Hand Held style radios as those don't really draw as much power. Personally I think it's the Truck mount Radio's on High Power settings that do the damage..

Ok Thanks.... these are just 5 watt hand helds. Do you think that lessens the danger, or do you think there even is any danger of damage at that low wattage? Thanks for getting back so quickly. Come see us. G.

I use a 2 meter HAM radio and burned mine up also know several others it has happened to. The 220 runs on a 153.000 freq VHF radios depending on channel run on a similar freq. It is an expensive lesson to learn.

When your Garmin cooked was it hooked to a roof mounted antenna?
