Yeah, it is amazing how nasty jaguar can be. They tend to kill their prey by biting them down through the head and crushing their skill or a canine tooth punctures the brain. They grab a dog and pull them in, one bite and they are done. Not like a mountain lion or bear where they might chew them up a bit but you can doctor your dogs.
I have an friend that is an international booking agent. He has 3 cities permits for jaguar in Peru. If he gets any hunters booked I will be flying down, makes me a little nervous to say the least. The average on the males on the last study down there was over 220 lbs. The heaviest male was 260. Totally crazy killing machines. Casey

Was that Shockey show on The Professionals, Lions can also kill dogs with one bit. I have lost two that way, the onlymarks on the body where the crushed skulls.

I saw that show also, man those jags are dog agressive. Felt bad for the guy losing his whole pack.

Doug, I've had the same thing happen with lion, watched it happen, kinda. In Mt. we put 1 in a cave and got all the dogs out to us but 1 and the hole made a 90 at the back end so I could see the rear half of the dog but not the lion he was baying, all the sudden the dog fell and his tail twithched a couple times and that was it. We couldn't get the thing to come out so the wife, a friend and I went back the next a.m. to get the collars and the dang lion was at the entrance and took off when he saw me coming, we went back to the house and got the dogs and got him killed. Sweet revenge. Mike

That's interesting
Have your friend contact me with regards to the CITES permits for the Jaguar.
I have clients booked to go to Paraguay for the dart hunt with Rocky in 2012, but to the best of my knowlage there are no legal CITES "anywhere" for Jaguar, I may be wrong.
I have clients who will book those hunts IF they are legal but I assume they are non importable even if it's legal to hunt them....there is still the CITES Import permits that are required to bring any spotted cat into the US or Canada and that is where the issue lies..
Leopard are far more agressive and will kill more hounds than any of the cats, but jaguar run a very close second.
I can't imagine the feeling Rocky had a huge loss of some outstanding hounds.

Brent,
Rudy is alittle tender footed to day after a 12 mile bear run. The dogs are alittle soft after the summer layoff.

Leopard and Jaguars with dogs is my dream hunt but can be rough on the dogs.
