Here's a few pictures that were sent to me today. Supposidly taken in the Gallatin Valley on Feb. 18, so I am hoping that mot everyone has seen them three times already.
Story goes that the elk eventually shook the lion off and walked away unharmed.[/img]
Nice Pictures

Those are some pretty unique piictures. A few years ago a buddy and I were cold trailing an older lion track down by a river bank in the bottom of a canyon I frequently hunt. My buddy had one of his dogs out and I had one of mine out plus a pup. The two older dogs were pounding the dirt hard and going slow enough we were right there with them to help them out a bit where we could. After about a half hour working the track I noticed that my pup had left us. Not knowing how long she had been gone, and worried she might find a deer herd to run off I began moving up that side of the canyon to the south. Suddenly I heard her begin to bark right above me so I moved up to where she was. While she had been roaming around she had stumbled onto a HUGE 6 point Bull Elk. I walk over to scold her for barking a a dead elk and check it out and realized that Elk had just been killed. Rigor had not even set in and it was still slightly warm. I called the dogs up to me and we put the dogs on the lion that had just killed dinner for the rest of the week. We were expecting to catch a monstor TOM but it turned out to be an agerage sized female. After a little bit of investigation, it looked like that lion had latched onto this elk and ridden it for about 100 yards straight down the side of the mountian through some pretty large bushes and over one tree until she finally did him in in the bottom of a small ravine.
So...the elk don't always win!

It was pretty neat. I have some video footage of the lion but none of the elk. Looking back I should have taken some of the elk as well...

Went up to where those pics were taken today and found the spot that the incident took place. Pretty neat to see how it all played out. Could see where the cat came down on the elk, which appeared to just be browsing on some brush. Unfortunately I couldn't freshen up the tracks, but he's still in there so I will keep trying. Thought it would be cool to put up the now famous lion.
