Looking for insight, have a couple young dogs that will chase bear but show fear when the bear is laying there dead. should i be concerned i believe when they catch up to the bear they shut up and start barking again when bear starts moving again. is this something they will get over? really want them to bay hard. I seen a buddy's dog never get over this, wondering if these one will be the same way. Think i might just have to get rid of them.

I have seen this before most will come around. If there to young and get scared they mite not. Try running one at a time with older dogs. How old are they.

Um, what are they doing on a live bear that's on the ground. I'd be more concerned with that. I've seen some top knotch dogs that absolutley wouldn't wool a bear. They could care less once it's done. It's pretty easy to find a dog that wants to bite a dead bear, it's much tougher to find one that can make a dead bear possible.
If they are catching it and shutting up, then barking again when it's moving some dogs are just like that. Contrary to what the www says, there isn't an unlimited supply of top knotch tough dogs. If they are coming out and bailing for the truck, then you've got a problem.
Personally if it was me, I'd give them a bit more time and get them one some caught bear with good dogs. Get their confidence up and then see what you've got. Dogs usually don't catch and bay as good as 1 or 2 as they do at 3.
I can't count how many guys I know that go for "getter done" type dogs that just keep cycling through dogs and never find it. Especially if they don't have a good base of older dogs to help out to start with. I'd work with what you've got and try to get better.

Not wooling and being scared are two different things. I have older dogs that can care less about wooling. But if they are scared, I'm afraid being a beardog isn't in the cards.

thanks for the insight ya'll, need to find an older dog, one of them did all last year as a pup with older dog (treed rigged and bayed) lost older dog over the winter so having tough year trying to get her to do it by herself. Be looking for a well started dog, that can be tough finding an affordable one, lot of guys sell for a reason usually not a good reason. thanks again

x2 provided it wasnt the gunshot that unerved them to begin with. ive seen young dogs that werent gunbroke go into that kind of nervous stupor from the kill shot .there are some that come around eventually ,but it is a damn small percentage once they are scared of ol blackie. usually they will keep finding something else to run or fall out all the time especially with a bear on the ground.even a good baydog should do so with conviction in my opinion .year and a half is where i consider them young dogs not pups this is a personnel opinion for the line of dogs i raise .keep us posted this is interesting.

I definetily wouldn't shoot them. You have to hunt with what you got. At least they aren't quitting a bayed bear and they run it. The best solution would be to get a good bay dog to show them how. It takes years to create a top notch bear pack and you need to start somewhere. I have only a couple of good bear dogs and the rest aren't very good bear dogs but I hunt in wolf country so if I lose my best dogs I can still run bears with my not so good dogs. You have to run what's tied in the backyard not what you had or should have.
