I was wondering how you all start or train a dog to become a rig dog. Today we put three dogs up on the rack and took a coon dragged it across the road a couple of times and then drove the truck down the road tell we hit the spot of the coon a few dogs had there noses out smelling so we got out and encouraged them to bark we let them bark for a minute or two then cut them loose after barking at the cage we did this several times. This is the only way I have heard to start or train a rig dog I am up for any suggestions or tips thanks for your time ....

sounds like what youre doing should work. All I've ever done is put them up on the box with a good rig dog.

The easiest way is to put them up with trained rig dogs , but I have had to start completly over a few times. I usually hang a caged coon over the road just higher than the dogs will be on the rig . Then drive under it. If they don"t bark , I stop and tease them till they do . Then pull away and come back under it again . They will pick it up pretty fast and bark each time . Then put the caged coon on the ground and drive by . If they bark let them off and bark at it on the ground . You can gradually make it more difficult till they are rigging like you want.Works for me anyway . I have seen some dogs that won"t ride on the box very well, and a few that just won"t bark up there , but most will. Hope that helps.
