Got a problem with a dog who is scared poopless of thunder, I have tried everything I can think of, no luck, seems to be progressive older she gets worse it gets. Hmm, She loves gunfire comes a running expecting a prize or adventure of some sort.
Other dogs care less about thunder but one is a shade shy of gunfire, not real bad but a fella can see it if you watch,
Had a stormy year here in my little slice of Utah, so there has been more than once that I had to blow off a hunt due to the weather because of her panicking and running off into history,
My question is this type of fear going to spread to the other 3 hounds? Sorta like fighting can? I already know I will semi- retire her unless its bluebird weather, I really have no choice, And before the culling comments show up it is not an option unless the fear will spread.
She was my first hound and we wore out a ton of boots and pads together, yep we both suck but she is a friend and I am mostly looking for thoughts on the situation rather than the usual extra earhole type answers

I don't think it will spread. Unless you are running some very young pups with her. Then I don't think it would spread because of fear but more she'd potentially be running off with them.

I have never seen that type of fear spread, unless she mother's pups and raises them acting that way and/or its genetic. I've had pups act gunshy, while there littermate/kennelmate isn't. I have an older female that won't hunt in the storming weather (thunder, hard wind and hail/rain) and her kennelmate for most of her life will be out at the gate waiting to go hunting come hell or high water.

If you have more than one dog that starts acting this way, I would wonder if they are getting some juice from the ground/chain when the storms are real close. I lost one two years ago tied to a tin shed. Also the dogs will notice if you are stressed and scared of storms at home and it will affect them JMO, Terry

Thanks for the replies couple good points made from all, And no I don't fear a storm, I actually sorta dig them unless I have to work in it, Someone pointed out in a PM that it is possible that I could be adding to the problem by worrying about her when it gets nasty because I know she is going to panic.
I do not coddle her when she freaks I just ignore her, but ignoring her is a change in my behaviour, Glad to hear it doesn't spread (no pups involved)
It really isn't a big problem just was a concern that it will affect the others,
I got some ideas to try different things, and if it doesn't work well I will deal with it
