Howdy all. Never been on a chase before and was wondering if anyone near me would let me tag along. Always have been interested in hounds but just havent known anyone that had any, that and I'm newer to this area. I'd be willing to help pay for gas and stuff. Would love to get a lion but I realize that many are pretty particular with what they actually kill. Mainly interested in just learning about the dogs and what all it takes to be successful while being on an actual chase too. Would like to learn more before making the time and monetary investment in hounds. Live near Bonners Ferry/Sandpoint ID.

Hi Mike, welcome to the area. A lot of guys will be a bit reluctant to respond to your post for a couple of reasons. Idaho, even more than most states, will hammer a guy if he takes you hunting and accepts anything for it, even gas money or a dang soda, it is considered illegal guiding. Even swapping a hunt can get you in hot water. Also the houndsmen are taking it pretty hard in the shorts up in that country from wolves to lots of out of state folks who moved over there when WA lost it's hound hunting rights. So the state which used to be one of the best in the west for houndsmen has really gone downhill due to alot more pressure from wolves and from a huge influx of resident houndsmen. I would say get ahold of your local warden and chat with him and see if he knows of any houndsmen who'll let you tag along and who the reputable houndsmen are in the area. Good luck to you!
