Ok, I'm feeding a lot of beef and would like to add some oil. What are your thoughts on these oils and could they cause harm to a dog (example kidneys) ?
Wheat Germ Oil.
Peanut Oil.
Canola Oil.
Corn Oil.
Sunflower Oil.
Soy Oil.
I've a lot of good about fish oil but it's not that easily accessible here.
Also what about Brewers Yeast as a supplement?
Thanks Terry

Terry,
why do you want to add oil?
I don't know about your list of oils, but I give my dogs the same fish oil gelcaps I take. They spit out the first one, but then after I broke one open and gave it to them, they come charging when I rattle the jar.
Tom.

Tom thanks for the reply, The fish caps would help vitamin needs and would be a good idea. I should try it (me and the dogs

I want to increase the fat intake and figure oil would be the easy way. I give extra beef fat but don't like the results. Dogs are wormed (lopatol) and not carrying enough weight for what they are eating, coats are drab. Guess I will have to mix in more dog food.
with all I hear about feeding peanut butter, that oil should be good.

I give mine a table spoon of coconut oil every day. It helps the immune system and makes the coat nice and soft and shinny. The other good oil for dogs is safflower oil. Read a book called “Give Your Dog a Bone”. It is written by a veterinarian in Australia.
I get the coconut oil at walmart in a white can, it will go solid in cool temps just warm it in the microwave.

i run my dogs pretty hard on hogs . and i've never really seen the need for adding any oil . i feed a 24/20 dog food all year . dull coats and staying thin are usually a sign of worms . gotta be sure you worm for tapes as well as all the others .

Don't think I have any worm problems, have used Panacure a lot in the past and this time used Lopotol that the vet said would get tapes???

Safflower oil's an excellent source of vitamin E, can be found next ot other oils in most grocery stores.

Flax seed poweder can be found at Wal-Mart. A table spoon a day will do wonders.
